"Go ahead, Mrs. Vance. I'm listening," Nora said between sips of water.
Zelda's tone brightened considerably. "I want to introduce you to someone."
Nora froze, her glass hovering halfway to her mouth. "Why bring this up all of a sudden, Mrs. Vance?"
"I just see you working so tirelessly all on your own, with no one to take care of you. I really can't help but worry."
Nora let out a soft laugh and placed the glass back on the counter.
The smile on her face was lined with a deep helplessness. "You really don't need to worry about me. I'm perfectly fine on my own, and I'm not tired."
Besides, she was about to be dragged back into the hell of an arranged marriage anyway. There was zero room in her life for anyone else.
"I really don't need anyone, Mrs. Vance."
Zelda wasn't ready to give up just yet. "He's quite young and incredibly capable. Are you absolutely sure you don't even want to meet him?"
"I really don't, Mrs. Vance." Nora didn't hesitate for a second.
The other end of the line fell silent for a moment before Zelda let out a gentle sigh. "Alright. If you know what you want, I won't force you."
Her tone instantly shifted back to its usual soothing warmth, treating the failed matchmaking attempt as a trivial blip. "Come over to my place tomorrow. I'll make a hearty stew for you so you can build up your strength. You've been pushing yourself far too hard lately, running back and forth between the lab and the hospital."
Nora agreed and ended the call. She sank onto the living room couch, letting her back melt into the cushions. Closing her eyes, she exhaled deeply. "It's not hard at all. It's all for the trials. I just want to see this succeed as quickly as possible. This is exactly what I signed up for."
Zelda hadn't pushed the topic further. She merely offered a few more reminders to rest before hanging up.
Seraphina had been plagued by a deep sense of paranoia lately. The fact that she still hadn't officially joined the Fletcher family left her in a constant state of panic. She was convinced Finnegan's sudden restlessness was entirely because of Cassie. He just wanted to give his daughter a complete family.
Seraphina exhaled sharply, her hands curling into tight fists as a venomous glint flickered in her eyes.
As long as she could get pregnant and secure her place as his wife, Finnegan would never have the chance to reconcile with Nora.
Steeling her resolve, she dried her hair, deliberately letting her robe slip off one smooth shoulder. She sat on the edge of the bed and slowly picked up the hairdryer.
The movement caught Finnegan's attention. He looked up, his eyes locking onto her exposed skin as his Adam's apple bobbed.
Seraphina stopped the dryer and turned to look at him seductively. "Finn, is the wound on your back fully healed yet?"
