He had finally managed to carve out more opportunities to be with her. He absolutely could not let anyone usurp his place.
Under Nora's hands-on guidance, Bonnie's Handmade Rabbit Lantern was finally finished.
She stood up holding her creation, spinning around the table to show everyone. The lantern was a bit lopsided, with one rabbit ear significantly larger than the other, but the pride radiating from Bonnie's face was brighter than if she had won a national championship.
She dashed over to the waiting area to parade it in front of Xander and Felix. Both men showered her with praise. Then, she hurried over to the opposite table to show it off to a new friend she had just made, absolutely thrilled.
Nora cleaned up the paste and scattered scraps of rice paper on the table, walked over to the waiting area, and sat down. She twisted the cap off a bottle of water and took a sip.
Felix immediately leaned in and handed her a wet wipe. "Clean your hands. They're covered in paste. If it dries, it'll peel a layer of skin right off."
Nora smiled, taking the wipe to clean her hands, but her gaze drifted toward the entrance, and her smile instantly vanished.
Standing at the doorway was Seraphina holding Cassie's hand. Next to them, an elderly man with silver hair but sharp, vigorous energy had just stepped out of a car.
Alastair Fletcher.
Nora's fingers froze over the wet wipe.
It was incredibly obvious that Alastair wasn't here for The Willow Academy Spring Fair.
Dressed in a tailored suit and leaning heavily on his cane, he strode forward. His expression wasn't overtly harsh, but the imposing aura cultivated over decades of wielding ultimate power made the temperature in the entire tent drop by two degrees the moment he arrived.
Cassie stood by the old man's side, keeping her head bowed obediently. She didn't dare throw a tantrum or cry, only sneaking quick glances at Seraphina.
Seraphina leaned in close to the old man, whispering something in a subservient posture.
Felix scowled and lowered his voice. "Why is he here?"
Nora shook her head, set the wipe on the table, and stood up. Her expression had already shifted back to a mask of cold indifference.
Unhappy that he was complimenting Bonnie, Cassie frowned and whined, "Great-Grandpa!"
Alastair shot a look at Seraphina, who quickly scooped Cassie into her arms to silence her.
"I was just passing by and heard there was an event here. Since it's my great-granddaughter's school, I thought I'd drop in. I had no idea things had escalated like this. Please accept my apologies, Mr. Harrison."
"I couldn't possibly accept that," Xander replied coldly.
Alastair chuckled, offering no rebuttal, yet showing zero intention of leaving.
Leaning on his cane, he shifted half a step sideways, turning his head toward Xander.
He gave a subtle nod, his tone laced with a faint hint of sycophancy. "It truly is a coincidence to see you here, Mr. Harrison. You sent your men over the other day, and unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to properly thank you. Though the Fletcher and Harrison families have never been overly close, I've always held the Harrison name in high regard. But tell me, how is it that you happen to be spending the day with my grandson's wife?"
