I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 200

Quitting time rolled around. Nora closed out the unfinished litigation document on her screen and rubbed her burning eyes.

Her phone lit up with a notification. Sienna's message popped onto the screen. She stared at those pathetic lines for a long time, her frown deepening by the second.

Was Sienna really capable of genuine remorse?

She had been friends with this woman for a decade. She knew her tone, her habits, and her manipulative little tricks better than anyone.

The desperately submissive tone dripping from every word of that text was the exact same tactic Sienna used every single time she messed up and wanted to sweep things under the rug.

After everything that happened, there was absolutely nothing left to discuss. Everything that needed to be said had been made perfectly clear on the phone.

Felix walked up behind her, still wearing his white lab coat, twirling his car keys around his finger.

Seeing Nora spaced out in the hallway staring at her phone, he stepped closer and playfully flicked her forehead. "Why haven't you clocked out yet? What are you standing around daydreaming about?"

Nora sighed. "Felix, people can be truly sinister."

Felix reached out and ruffled her hair. "Just figuring that out now, huh? But don't worry. From now on, I've got your back."

Nora looked up at him, a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. Felix took off his lab coat, draping it over his arm. "I'll drive you home."

Nora was about to decline, but she swallowed the words at the last second.

Sienna had been backed into a desperate corner. Nora hadn't replied to the text yet, and knowing Sienna's volatile temper, she was fully capable of doing something crazy out of pure humiliation.

"Thank you, Felix," Nora said softly, before turning and settling onto the living room sofa.

But the second she sat down, her mind uncontrollably spiraled right back to Sienna.

She hadn't signed the settlement, and Gideon was still rotting in a holding cell. Once the three-day deadline hit, if the money wasn't in her account, she was officially filing the lawsuit.

Knowing Sienna's erratic nature, there was zero chance she would just sit back and accept her fate.

She had no idea what unhinged stunt Sienna might pull next. First thing tomorrow morning, she needed to consult with her law firm, finalize the litigation paperwork, and get her money back. Only when the dust fully settled could she actually breathe easily.

Right in the middle of her thoughts, her phone started ringing. Nora glanced down at the screen. It was Bonnie.
