I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 197

After the call ended, Sienna's heart was still racing out of control.

She stared in sheer disbelief at the 'Call Ended' screen on her phone. How dare Nora speak to her like that?

So what if it was half a million dollars? What gave her the right to act so superior?

It wasn't like she couldn't afford it. Her business was just getting off the ground, and cash flow was a little tight at the moment.

Once her business took off, half a million would be pocket change. She'd throw five million dollars right in Nora's face.

And why was Nora being so insanely ungrateful, actually threatening to sue her?

Her cousin was incredibly successful—a tech executive pulling in a six-figure salary. He was way out of the league of a widowed single mother dragging around a dead weight. What right did Nora have to sue him?

But remembering Nora's tone—it hadn't sounded like an empty threat. That bone-chilling calmness was infinitely more terrifying than any hysterical screaming, sending a cold shiver straight down Sienna's spine. She was genuinely starting to panic.

Clutching her phone, she paced around her room a couple of times before finally pulling up Seraphina's number and dialing.

The line rang a few times before it connected, the rhythmic mechanical hum of a printer buzzing in the background on Seraphina's end.

Without waiting for a greeting, Sienna blurted out frantically, "Seraphina, where are you? Something really bad just happened, and I need to see you."

Seraphina was in the middle of printing documents. Hearing the sheer panic, her hands briefly paused.

Finnegan had just warned her that morning to cut ties with Sienna. She still couldn't entirely figure out if he was genuinely worried for her safety or just using it as an excuse to protect Nora.

But Sienna was an incredibly useful pawn—obedient, impulsive, and easily manipulated. Seraphina wasn't about to just throw her away.

After work, Seraphina arrived at the agreed coffee shop to find Sienna already huddled in a corner booth, having waited quite a while.

Her coffee remained completely untouched. The moment she spotted Seraphina walking through the door, she leaped to her feet and frantically waved her over.

Before Seraphina could even slide into the booth, Sienna grabbed her arm, her voice bubbling with furious urgency.

"Seraphina, what do I do? Nora is demanding her money back, and she swore she'll never sign the settlement. She said if I don't pay up, she'll drag me into the lawsuit too! We've been friends for years! How could she do this to me? She's so cold-blooded—is she trying to back me into a corner and destroy my life?!"

Seraphina patted her hand gently, motioning for her to sit. She placed her designer bag to the side, flagged a waiter for an Americano, and then finally spoke in a slow, deliberate drawl.

"Calm down, Sienna. I've thought about this a lot."

She paused, analyzing the frantic look in Sienna's eyes, before delivering her next words in a soft but pointed tone. "To be brutally honest, you didn't handle this well."
