I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 176

Sienna felt a sting of irritation at Seraphina blatantly ignoring her rant about the money.

She paused, tempted to ask if Seraphina had even heard a word she said, but swallowed the complaint. Maybe Seraphina was just panicked.

After all, anyone with eyes could see how Nora still felt about Finnegan. It was only natural for Seraphina to be terrified of them rekindling their old romance.

She scoffed softly. "Fine, I get it. I'll figure something out tomorrow. But if she brings up that debt one more time, I am officially done with her."

Seraphina gave a dismissive hum and ended the call. The fact that Nora refused to move on festered like a thorn in her side, making her skin crawl.

She remembered the scene at the hospital—how Finnegan had completely lost control, desperately demanding Nora's room number right in front of her. He had taken thirty agonizing lashes across his back, yet while burning up with fever and delirious, the only name he called out was Nora's. All these moments piled up in her mind, completely destroying her peace.

Lost in her dark thoughts, she turned around and nearly jumped out of her skin. Finnegan was standing right in the bedroom doorway.

His lacerated back hadn't fully healed. Seraphina gasped in alarm. "What are you doing up? Why aren't you resting in bed? Your wounds are still fresh, and the doctor said these next two days are critical. You can't stand for too long."

Finnegan's gaze settled on her face, his expression seemingly indifferent.

But Seraphina knew him far too well. The more nonchalant he looked, the more certain it was that he had heard every single word of her phone call.

Sure enough, Finnegan cut straight to the chase. "Did you just say you're trying to set Nora up with another man? Trying to get her to remarry?"

Alarm bells shrieked in Seraphina's head. She tested the waters delicately. "Finn... do you object? Are you still holding onto..."

Before she could finish the sentence, Finnegan let out a sharp laugh.

He kept all of this locked away, not wanting to upset Seraphina.

To the world, he was now Frederick Fletcher. Seraphina was his fiancé. Whether Nora remarried or not had absolutely nothing to do with him anymore.

Yet, the mere thought of Nora shutting down the date instantly relieved the suffocating pressure that had been tightening around his chest. The corners of his mouth lifted of their own accord.

He patted Seraphina's shoulder reassuringly. "If you don't believe me, test it out tomorrow. See if Nora agrees. You'll have your answer then."

Hearing his absolute, ironclad certainty stirred a bizarre, unsettling sensation in the pit of Seraphina's stomach. Her frown slowly deepened.

Why was Finnegan so intensely confident that Nora wouldn't move on?
