I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 120

It was the indisputable truth. Long before he and Nora had ever gotten together, he had heard about this 'Felix' character.

Back then, Nora had constantly talked about him, endlessly praising how wonderful and brilliant he was. Even though it had grated on Finnegan's nerves, they had only just started dating, so he had no right to demand she stop.

But seeing the two of them standing shoulder-to-shoulder now, a sudden, inexplicable panic gripped his chest. It felt as though something vital was slipping right through his fingers, and the harder he tried to hold on, the faster it disappeared.

He took a deep, heavy breath and was just about to snap back when a soft, feminine voice interrupted.

"Finnegan?"

Everyone turned toward the entrance. Seraphina emerged from the concert hall, clutching Cassie's hand. Cassie trailed closely beside her.

The exact second Cassie spotted Nora, her little eyebrows scrunched together in alarm. She instinctively shrank back, hiding halfway behind Seraphina's legs, peeking out with wide, guarded eyes at her own mother.

Panic flared in her little chest. Why was her mom still here? Was she going to drag her home? Seraphina had promised to take her out for a delicious dinner afterward, and there was no way Cassie wanted her mother to ruin it.

Seraphina approached Finnegan with a gentle, perfect smile. She glanced at him before turning her curated curiosity toward Nora and Felix. "What are you all talking about? I was waiting for you forever."

The furious tension on Finnegan's face instantly dissolved the moment he looked at her, replaced by a warm, accommodating expression.

He offered a mild smile. "It's nothing. Just ran into Nora and wanted to give her a little advice. I hope she takes it to heart."

The word 'advice' sounded utterly hypocritical, as if he were simply fulfilling his noble duties as the protective brother of her late husband.

Nora wanted to laugh at the sheer absurdity of it all.

He gently nudged her shoulder with his, forcing a light, teasing tone. "What's wrong? Did seeing those two jerks ruin your night?"

Nora couldn't help but crack a small smile at his blunt phrasing.

Seeing her expression soften, Felix pushed forward. "Don't let them ruin your mood. Come on, I have a surprise for you."

Nora turned to look at him, genuine warmth finally reaching her eyes. "What surprise?"

Felix raised an eyebrow and gently guided her forward by the shoulders, his voice dripping with smug secrecy. "You'll see when we get there. And don't bother asking questions, because I am absolutely not telling you."

Nora let him push her forward a few steps before throwing a glance back at him. Seeing the resolute secrecy written all over his face, she decided not to press the issue. With a soft laugh, she walked alongside him toward the parking lot.
