The Celestial Heights.
The most exclusive luxury residence in Metropolis.
A sprawling five-thousand-square-foot penthouse.
Maeve lived here completely alone.
The television in the living room was broadcasting the financial news.
Grant Fletcher, patriarch of The Fletcher Group, had officially stepped down, handing the reins of CEO to Finn Fletcher.
She stared at the screen, utterly stunned.
She had returned to Metropolis clutching lethal leverage against Grant, fully intending to destroy him the moment he tried to make things difficult for Finn.
Maeve had been ready to ensure Grant suffered the exact same fate as Yolanda and Ford.
But Grant hadn't even given her the chance.
He had voluntarily surrendered his throne.
Maeve switched off the TV and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window.
The dazzling nightscape of Metropolis sprawled out beneath her feet, a sea of endless lights.
Yet, her heart was a turbulent mess.
Her phone rang.
She glanced at the caller ID and picked up.
"Maeve, you certainly move fast."
Arthur Winston's voice came through the speaker.
"I saw the news. Finn actually pulled it off. What exactly did you do to the old man?"
"I didn't even lay a finger on that old bastard." Maeve stared out into the glittering night. "He stepped down on his own."
Arthur fell silent for a moment.
"It seems he still holds a place for you in his heart."
"Arthur, spare me the nausea." Maeve's voice turned icy. "Let's talk about you. How are things in Thailand? Is the place I set up for you comfortable enough?"
Arthur sighed heavily.
"At my age, anywhere is fine." He paused, then spoke again. "I played the part. I pretended Ford bought me off, and I leaked Finn's secrets to the press, exactly as you asked. I imagine Finn must hate my guts right now."
"Don't worry about it. He's a smart boy; he'll figure out soon enough that you were actually helping him."
A brief silence hovered on the line.
"Maeve, do you think the old man..."
Knowing how much Maeve despised talking about Grant, Arthur stopped himself.
"What's your next move?"
Maeve didn't answer.
Her phone vibrated again, signaling an incoming call.
