Sienna looked down at that precious little face and managed a faint smile.
"I'm not. I'm not sad at all."
"Liar. Your eyes are all red."
Sienna blinked rapidly and forced a brighter smile.
"Nonsense. Come on, let's go watch you dance."
Maya stood on her tiptoes and pressed a soft kiss to Sienna's cheek.
"Sienna, hurry up and become my mommy. The house is so empty. I really want you to move in so we can live together."
Sienna didn't answer.
She simply hugged the warm, soft little girl, closing her eyes tightly.
The dance class finally ended.
Sienna held Maya's hand as they walked out of the arts center. The setting sun spilled golden light across the front steps.
A sleek black Maybach was parked at the curb. Silas leaned against the door, dressed in a charcoal-gray casual suit, sans tie, looking noticeably less rigid than usual.
The golden hour sunlight hit his shoulders, casting him in a warm, inviting glow.
Seeing them emerge, he stood up straight, a subtle smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
"Daddy!" Maya let go of Sienna's hand and fluttered toward him like a tiny butterfly.
Silas bent down to scoop her into his arms. Maya threw her arms around his neck, her eyes crinkling with delight.
"Did you dance well?" Silas asked.
"Yes! Sienna said I was the best!" Maya turned to look at her. "Sienna, come here!"
Sienna walked over.
Holding Maya with one arm, Silas seamlessly reached out with his free hand to take Sienna's purse.
The gesture was so smooth and natural, it felt as though he had done it a thousand times before.
Maya rested her chin on his shoulder and patted Sienna's arm.
"Daddy, I want pizza. The three of us. Let's go together."
"Alright." Silas pulled the rear door open.
Sienna hesitated. Her boss was personally holding the door for her?
"What is it?" Silas asked, his eyes crinkling with a gentle, disarming warmth.
