I Stopped Loving Him When He Let Me Bleed Out novel Chapter 232

Finn stood by the examination table, holding his small hand.

"It won't hurt, York. They're just taking some pictures."

York nodded, tears welling in his eyes, but he kept them from falling.

Sienna stepped back into the control room, watching through the glass window as the tiny body lay on the table.

The machine started up with a low, humming sound.

She stared at the images slowly forming on the screen.

His arms, his back, his thighs.

Her fingers gripped the edge of the desk tightly.

Twenty minutes later, the scan was finished.

When York climbed off the table, his legs gave out slightly, and Finn immediately reached out to steady him.

"Dad, can we go back now?"

"Yes."

York took two steps, suddenly stopped, and turned to look at Sienna.

"Sienna."

Sienna crouched down.

"Thank you."

Sienna froze in surprise.

After saying those two words, York turned back around, took Finn's hand, and walked step by step toward the door.

His silhouette was so tiny, like a speck of sand that could be blown away by the wind at any moment.

Sienna stood up and turned back to the control room.

"Dr. Whitaker, when will the report be ready?"

"Tomorrow morning at the earliest."

Sienna nodded. She pulled a flash drive from her pocket and handed it over.

"Please copy all the raw imaging data onto this once it's done."

Dr. Whitaker gave her a look but didn't ask questions as he took the drive.

Just as Sienna stepped out of the imaging department, her phone rang.

She and Finn were the same—trapped by their toxic families, unable to sever ties completely.

If they could truly be that ruthless, it would be a different story.

The next day.

"Mr. Hayes, the head of the inpatient department mentioned this morning that Dr. Sterling took a leave of absence. A family emergency. She'll be gone for a week."

Caspar reported.

Silas paused while flipping through a file.

"What's the emergency?"

"She didn't specify. Just said it was family business."

Silas remained silent for a few seconds.

"Find out where her family lives."

"Her resume says Riverdale."

"Look into what happened."
