I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 246

Behind closed doors, everyone at Sterling Group assumed Garrett and Zoe were secretly dating.

But someone pointed out, "Isn't Director Lynd married? She has a daughter. That viral apology was about her daughter getting bullied by Vice President Winters' son."

"Why did she only apologize to Director Lynd? Shouldn't she have apologized to her husband, too? There wasn't a single mention of him."

"Who knows? Rumor has it her husband's family treats her like trash. They don't respect her or care about the kid..."

"But look how close the Boss is to her. I saw him taking her and her daughter out to dinner the other day. Do you think he's trying to step up?"

The gossip spread like wildfire, eventually reaching Easton Group.

Word on the street was that Garrett and Zoe were an item.

Sienna's humiliation was plastered across the front pages for seven straight days.

When she first saw it, she nearly fainted from rage.

She ran to Hayden, but he only asked her one question.

"What exactly did you say to Zoe?"

Sienna was struck dumb.

She had bragged that Hayden gave the shares to her.

She had no idea Zoe had the connections to completely humiliate the Thorne family.

"Can we sue her?"

If Zoe could play dirty, Sienna wanted blood.

Hayden's brow furrowed deeply.

"We have no proof."

Sienna shut her mouth instantly.

For days, she didn't dare show her face in public or at the office.

Back at the Thorne estate, Nita Thorne relentlessly tore into her.

Nita scolded her for disgracing the family, though she reserved her most vicious insults for Zoe, calling the situation a massive overreaction to kids playing around.

Furious, Nita marched over to Grandmother Thorne's quarters.

Grandmother Thorne had seen the viral apology on day one and chose to ignore it. Now, Nita was bringing it to her doorstep.

"Look at this, Mom! Is this acceptable? Zoe is dragging the Thorne family name through the mud for the whole city to laugh at.

"I haven't been able to show my face at poker nights for days! Everyone keeps asking what happened. You know Sienna is refined and polite, completely unlike that trash Zoe. She drugged Hayden to trap him, ruined his relationship with Sienna..."

Grandmother Thorne cut her off sharply.

"They are your daughters-in-law. Can't you manage them yourself? Why come crying to me? When you were the young wife, did you ever dare pull stunts like this?"

Nita choked, completely silenced by the reprimand.

"So we just let Zoe do whatever she wants?"

Grandmother Thorne scoffed coldly.

Hayden's jaw clenched so hard his teeth nearly cracked.

She was covered in spikes. He couldn't find a single weak point to exploit.

"And for the record, if you actually gave those shares to Sienna, we are done talking. I'm taking Lily and moving out. You can draft the divorce papers, or I will. I don't care."

"You know threats don't work on me anymore. If you want a divorce, read the prenup before you come crying to me."

The prenup. Always the prenup.

She really did want to know what was in it.

"I don't have a copy."

Hayden scoffed. "There were three copies. I kept one, you kept one. Stop playing games."

Zoe genuinely had never seen it.

"Then let me see yours."

Hayden acted as if she had just told the funniest joke in the world.

"Stop stalling. Last time I had two copies, you pulled this exact same stunt. You took them and burned them. What are you planning to do with the last one?

"Zoe, the act is getting old, and I'm bored. If you actually have amnesia, go see a doctor. Get your brain fixed so you can remember exactly what you've done during our marriage."

Zoe saw nothing but pure, unadulterated disgust in his eyes.

He looked at her like she was a monster.
