"Taking advantage of someone in a crisis, devoid of basic human empathy—is this the so-called ethical standard of a psychologist?"
Virginia’s expression remained perfectly neutral, though a flicker of cold irritation sparked in her eyes.
She could see his desperate, misguided love for Chloe, but his blinding bias was so utterly pathetic it was physically repulsive.
"If you came here to play the self-righteous hero, the door is right there. I won't see you out."
She calmly raised a hand, gesturing for him to leave.
Instead of leaving, Liam stared at her with a twisted, mocking smirk, his contempt bleeding through.
"What? Did I strike a nerve? Are you throwing a tantrum because I exposed you?"
"It's only a matter of time. Right now, Archer is just temporarily blinded by you. The second he sees your true face..."
Click. The guest room door on the ground floor suddenly swung open.
Miles strolled out in his slippers.
He had been wearing noise-canceling headphones while practicing a song and hadn’t heard the initial commotion. The second he pulled them off, he caught the faint sound of dog barking.
He was wearing an oversized designer t-shirt, his silver necklace swinging lazily with his steps. His undeniably youthful face was now twisted into an unapologetic sneer.
"Who forgot to leash their dog and let it come barking at someone else's front door?"
Miles closed the distance with long strides, aggressively pulling Virginia behind his back as he looked Liam up and down with utter disdain.
Liam frowned, sizing up the flashy, arrogant young man standing in front of him. "Who the hell are you? Do you honestly think you have the right to speak here?"
"Who I am doesn't matter," Miles scoffed, his eyes dripping with contempt. "But you, on the other hand, are painfully obvious. You're just a pathetic simp begging to be a backup plan."
"What's the matter? Your master is having an episode, and instead of staying by her bed fetching her water and feeding her pills, you run over to my house to beg for attention? Does she even look at you?!"
"Ginny, you can't go easy on scumbags like that. The quieter you are, the more they push!" Miles spun around, the aggressive hostility vanishing from his face instantly, replaced by a radiant, sunny grin.
"Got it. I'll remember that."
"Oh, by the way, Ginny, I wasn't deliberately hiding my identity from him. I just knew that if he realized who I was, it would only bring you unnecessary trouble."
Looking at the young man whose foresight was even sharper than hers, Virginia smiled with deep relief.
Miles reached into his pocket and pulled out a gold-stamped ticket. "Ginny, I have a solo concert in a few days. I saved a VIP front-row seat just for you. You absolutely have to come!"
Virginia took the ticket, her lips curling up as she admired the edgy, stylish design.
This was his very first solo concert since they reunited. Even if he hadn't invited her, she would have bought a ticket the second she found out.
"I will."
