Chloe bit her lip, toxic jealousy flaring bright in her eyes.
But she smoothed her features instantly, hurrying over to tug gently at his sleeve.
"Archer, are you alright?"
"...I'm fine," he replied, smoothly pulling his arm free as he stood up straight. "Let's go back in."
For the rest of the gala, Archer was completely distracted. Though he tried to hide it, Chloe could clearly feel the icy distance in his demeanor, noticing his eyes constantly, obsessively scanning the room for Virginia.
Finally, unable to stomach being treated like a ghost for another second, she clutched her chest and manufactured a sickly pallor.
"Archer, I don't feel well. Take me home."
Archer tore his gaze from the crowd, looking down at her before giving a curt nod.
...
Back at Bayview Manor.
The moment they arrived, Chloe slipped into the master bathroom. After an indulgent shower, she slipped on a dangerously sheer silk nightgown, practically bathing herself in a notoriously seductive perfume.
Only after admiring her flawless reflection in the mirror did she finally step out.
Carrying a warm glass of milk, she sauntered over to his study and knocked softly.
"Archer? It's me."
Archer was seated behind his massive desk, buried in paperwork. He didn't even look up as he called out, "Come in."
Hearing the door click shut, he finally raised his head. Taking in her provocative display, his brow furrowed in immediate displeasure. A flash of pure revulsion rippled through his dark eyes, though he masked it quickly.
Oblivious to his disgust, Chloe sashayed toward the desk, setting the glass down before coquettishly tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Archer... since I got sick... it's been so long since we've been intimate..."
She gazed up at him through her lashes, reaching out to grasp the hem of his dress shirt, playing the role of the desperate, neglected wife to perfection.
"I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Toby must be so lonely by himself. Let's give him a little brother or sister."
Archer casually dropped his documents, capped his pen, and stood up, effortlessly ripping the fabric from her grip.
"Your current health condition doesn't allow for a pregnancy."
The next evening.
After finishing some overtime, Virginia confirmed that Mrs. Benson had picked up Cindy as planned before calling a rideshare.
Her driver had just pulled up outside her apartment building when a black Maybach violently swerved to block their path. Its high beams flared, blinding her and the driver, forcing them both to shield their eyes.
"What the hell is wrong with this lunatic?!"
The driver cursed, slamming his door open, fully intending to start a brawl.
Squinting into the blinding glare, Virginia recognized the Maybach and quickly intervened. "I'm so sorry, sir. That's for me."
With an apologetic sigh, she climbed out.
The Maybach's headlights instantly snapped off.
Virginia: "..."
A second later, the rear passenger door swung open, and a pair of long, powerful legs stepped out into the night.
His silk tie was half undone, hanging limply against his unbuttoned collar. Under the eerie glow of the streetlamp, his unnervingly pale skin practically radiated a cold, dangerous aura.
