His Wicked Obsession (Archer and Virginia) novel Chapter 103

Caught entirely off guard, Virginia gasped as the scalding water splashed over her right hand and forearm. Fortunately, the thermos was only half full, but the sleeve of her lab coat was instantly soaked.

Virginia turned pale, letting out a sharp cry of pain as she instinctively ripped the coat off.

Waiting out in the hall, Archer heard the commotion and immediately pushed the door open.

He froze. Virginia stood in her short-sleeved blouse, angry red burns blistering across her hand and arm.

Beyond her, patient files lay soaked on the desk, surrounded by a puddle of water.

Realizing what had happened, his brow furrowed deeply.

"What's going on?"

Right on cue, the office door opened wider and Doctor White walked in.

Seeing his star pupil nursing a fresh burn, his heart lurched.

"What happened here?"

Chloe flashed Virginia a triumphant smirk.

Then, quick as lightning, she covered her mouth with trembling hands, forcing tears into her eyes to play the picture of innocent horror.

"I'm so sorry, Virginia! I—I don't know what came over me. Are you okay?"

"...You did that on purpose."

Panic flickered in Chloe's eyes. She immediately latched onto Archer's arm, looking utterly heartbroken. "Virginia, how could you say that? Why would I throw boiling water at you on purpose? I—I swear it was an accident."

"Archer, you have to believe me. I really didn't..."

"You literally just..."

"Enough." Before Virginia could finish, Archer cut her off, his brow knitting together. "Chloe didn't mean it. Let's just drop this."

"I'll have the staff process your file transfer immediately. Dr. Caldwell will no longer be assisting with your treatment."

"As for whether I will personally keep you on as a patient," Doctor White adjusted his glasses, his stare piercing. "I think I need to reevaluate that."

Chloe paled, completely caught off guard. "Doctor White, please, it was an accident! Virginia—she kept provoking me! I lost control for just a second and..."

She shook Archer's arm pleadingly, desperate for him to intervene.

After all, her condition was real, and Doctor White was the only specialist capable of treating her.

"You must not be aware, Miss Caldwell, but to protect our patients, this entire clinic is fully monitored. Every inch except the restrooms. Would you like me to pull the security footage?"

Doctor White cut her off, a hint of mockery lacing his words.

He would never let anyone get away with harming his protégé.
