Chapter one hundred and thirty one
Binca
Felix said he just wanted to let me know he would be there in two hours, and asked if I needed anything which said no to After I dropped the call, I walked straight to the kitchen and ate whatever was left from the pot Emma and the lady cooked.
I didn’t want to be dressing up on an empty stomach, not with how long the night was likely going to stretch. I ate quickly. barely tasting anything, my mind already jumping ahead to the dress hanging in its bag behind my door.
By the time I finished eating, I had less than an hour and a half left, so I rushed into the bathroom and let the shower run a little hotter than usual, trying to shake off the tiredness from work. I scrubbed and rinsed fast, wrapped my hair in a towel, and stood in front of the mirror deciding what to do with it. I settled on soft curls that framed my face and fell past my shoulders.
My makeup came next, light on the base, a little heavier on the eyes, and a deep red on my lips that matched the mood of the dress. I stepped back a few times to check myself in the mirror, turning my face side to side, before I finally slipped into the emerald green gown. It fit exactly the way it had in the store, hugging my waist and falling just right at the hips, and when I looked at my full reflection I actually smiled at myself.
I was still fixing my earrings when my phone buzzed with a text from Felix saying he was downstairs with the driver. I grabbed my small clutch, checked myself one last time, and stepped out of my room.
Emma looked up from the couch and her mouth fell open. “Bianca, you look so beautiful,” she said, jumping up to get a closer look at the dress.
The nanny sitting beside her nodded in agreement. “Very beautiful, ma. That colour suits you well well.”
I laughed and thanked them both, telling Emma to behave herself and go to bed early, before I stepped out and locked the door behind me. I was halfway down the corridor when my phone rang again, and this time it was Amanda.
“Girl, I got the pictures you sent,” she said the moment I picked up. “You look so beautiful, Adrian will fall on his knees tonight.”
Naughed as I entered into the car beside Felix, and Amanda kept gisting me the whole ride, throwing one joke after another, telling me exactly how I should walk in so that everybody’s eyes would land on me first before anything else. She was still talking when the car finally slowed down and I saw the entrance of the hall lit up ahead, cars lined up one after another as guests stepped out in their best outfits.
“I have to go now,” I told her, and she made me promise to call her the moment I got home before I hung up.
Someone from outside opened the car door before I could reach for the handle myself, and I stepped out with Felix beside me, smoothing down my dress as we walked toward the entrance.
Before we could even get fully inside, I saw Adrian was standing there, hands in his pockets and it was almost funny how his shirt and suit matched the exact shade of my dress, like we had planned it.
I didn’t look at his face as we walked closer to each other. “Good evening,” he said, and I mumbled the same back to him.
He reached for my hand and I let him take it, and we walked into the hall together. The evening started slow, with a short introduction from the host welcoming everyone and thanking the sponsors for making the event happen. I stood beside Adrian through most of it, aware of every time his eyes drifted toward me instead of the stage, quick glances that he thought I didn’t notice, but I did, every single time.
Luckily for me, I spotted one of the girls from my workplace standing not too far off, someone I always gisted with during lunch breaks, and I excused myself to go say hello. Adrian didn’t seem to mind, already being pulled into conversation by a
ing me free to catch up properly with my colleague.

We talked for a while, laughing about work drama and comparing notes on who wore what, and somewhere in the middle of all that laughing. I felt my stomach twist with the need to use the toilet. I excused myself and made my way through the
owd, following the signs down a quiet hallway until I found it.
When I stepped back out, still fixing the strap of my clutch, I wasn’t paying attention to where I was walking and bumped straight into someone.
