HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 980

Slowly, Lydia let out a long breath.

Enduring the pain that still flared up from time to time throughout her body, she carefully sat up on the edge of the bed. The doctor had repeatedly warned her not to exert herself, but there was one thing she wanted to do that night.

She wanted to watch Cale leave.

With slow, careful steps, Lydia walked to the large window overlooking the villa's front courtyard. She pulled the curtain aside just enough to reveal the driveway, which was now beginning to grow quiet.

In the distance, the taillights of the convoy were still visible. Gradually... they grew smaller and smaller until they were nothing more than tiny points of light at the end of the road.

Lydia wrapped her arms around herself. Her right hand slowly moved to gently caress her stomach, which held the tiny life she had so nearly lost.

Her eyes became misty again, but this time she didn't cry. She simply gazed at the road Cale had just taken, as though hoping her eyes could accompany him wherever he went.

"Please..." Lydia's voice was so soft it was almost swallowed by the night breeze slipping through the gap in the window. Her fingers unconsciously tightened over her stomach. "Protect him and bring him back to me, dear God."

That was the only prayer she could bring herself to say.

There were no long-winded words. No elaborate pleas. Because she believed God already knew every fear she had kept buried deep within her heart.

The fear that had never truly disappeared since the night Silas had taken her away, since she had opened her eyes and learned that Naomi was lying at death's door, since the doctor had told her that the baby she was carrying had nearly become another victim.

Lydia slowly closed her eyes.

One memory after another flashed through her mind. The dark room where she had been held captive. The fear that haunted her every time footsteps drew near. Naomi's pale face on the hospital bed. Brandon's badly injured shoulder. Daniel having to undergo surgery. All of those events felt like a chain of interconnected wounds, and they all led back to a single source.

Silas Evermont.

She remained standing in front of the window, hugging herself while holding on to the lingering warmth of Cale's embrace from just moments before. The night grew quieter and quieter, but she no longer felt alone.

Now, all she could do was wait and continue believing that every step her husband took would lead him back home.

Far from the warmth of the villa, a new hunt had quietly begun. While Lydia waited with unceasing prayers, Silas Evermont continued moving from one hiding place to another, unaware that the one man he had wanted to avoid above all others had already begun his pursuit.

And this time...

Cale wasn't coming to follow Silas's trail.

He was coming to end it all.
