HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 978

That afternoon, the sky above the villa was clear after several days of relentless rain. The late afternoon sunlight streamed warmly through the large windows of the living room. For the first time since all the chaos had unfolded, the atmosphere inside the house felt truly peaceful.

Lydia sat on the sofa, holding a cup of warm tea. She looked far healthier than she had just a few days ago. The pallor that had once colored her face had begun to fade, although the doctor was still urging her to get plenty of rest for the sake of her pregnancy.

Across from her, Cale closed the report he had been reading before finally lifting his cup of coffee.

"You look better today," Cale said with a faint smile.

Lydia returned the smile. "The doctor said the same thing. The baby is doing well."

Cale's gaze unconsciously dropped to Lydia's stomach. Warmth filled his heart. Even now, those simple words still sounded like a miracle after everything they had nearly lost.

Before he could respond, the tablet on the table vibrated softly. Paula's name appeared on the screen.

Cale's expression immediately turned more serious. He accepted the call at once. "Paula."

"Sorry to interrupt your time off, Mr. Cale," Paula said without preamble. Behind her, multiple monitors filled the Black Tower command center. Coordinates continued moving across the digital map displayed on the main screen.

"Any developments?"

Paula nodded. "We've managed to obtain Silas's last known location."

It didn't take long for the surveillance data Paula had gathered to be sent to Cale's work tablet.

A red dot blinked in the mountainous region bordering the route out of Carrington Bay. Several blue lines showed the possible escape routes he could take.

Cale studied the information with meticulous attention.

"He disappeared for nearly twelve hours," Paula continued. "We thought all of his communication devices had been switched off. But about thirty minutes ago, one of his backup signals appeared for a few seconds. It was enough for us to estimate the direction he was heading."

Cale's eyes never left the map. "He's heading for the border."

"Yes. We believe Silas is looking for the safest route out without passing through the main checkpoints."

Paula added a few more details about Silas's possible hiding places before concluding her report and ending the call.

The call ended, and the room fell silent once more.

After the call with Paula ended, the living room was once again filled with silence. The tablet screen on the table had gone dark, but the image of the map Cale had just studied still occupied his thoughts. He stared blankly toward the villa's courtyard, as though calculating every possible move Silas might make.

Meanwhile, Lydia never took her eyes off her husband's face. She knew that look. It was the expression that always appeared whenever Cale had already made a decision. She had a feeling Cale would act soon. As long as Silas Evermont was still out there, everything they had been through was not truly over.

And she knew exactly how Cale would act. He would never allow the man who had nearly taken her life, the life of their unborn child, and Naomi's life to remain free without being held accountable.

"Are you... leaving?" she asked softly.

Cale turned to her. A faint smile appeared on his face, but it wasn't enough to hide the seriousness in his eyes. "I don't know yet."

"Really?" Lydia replied with a wistful smile. "You've already made up your mind, Cale, even before you answered my question."

Her words left Cale silent.
