HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 960

Those were the only words that finally escaped Cale's lips.

Lydia slowly turned toward him. Their eyes met, and her husband looked so deeply remorseful over what had happened to her.

"I should have found you sooner," Cale said quietly.

Lydia felt the tightness return to her throat. Slowly, she returned her husband's grip, then gently stroked the back of his hand with her thumb, as though trying to erase the guilt that continued to haunt him.

"It wasn't your fault," she whispered softly.

But Cale knew...

No matter how much Lydia tried to reassure him, he would probably never stop blaming himself for not bringing home the woman he loved most sooner.

The atmosphere in the room gradually settled into silence again.

No one spoke immediately after the doctor's explanation ended. Lydia was still holding Cale's hand, while he occasionally stroked the back of his wife's hand with his thumb, as though reassuring himself that she was truly there in front of him.

The doctor allowed the silence to linger for a while. His decades of experience had taught him that not every explanation needed to be followed immediately by more words. Sometimes, people simply needed time to accept what they had just heard.

Slowly, he closed the folder containing the examination results, yet he still did not move from where he stood.

"And because your condition still requires close monitoring, I can't allow you to leave the villa."

Lydia let out a slow breath. This time, she didn't argue.

Not because she was any less worried about Naomi, but because she was beginning to understand what was happening to her own body. She didn't want to become another burden while everyone else was fighting to save Naomi.

"I'll stay here," she said softly. "But as soon as my condition allows it, I want to see someone. I... I'm afraid something bad might happen to her."

The doctor nodded. "Of course."

He glanced at the test results in his hands once more, making sure there were no incorrect numbers. After that, his gaze shifted to Lydia, then to Cale, who had been standing beside the bed the entire time.

"After all the bad news," he said, lifting the test results, "it's nice that this time I get to share some good news."

The room suddenly fell silent.

Lydia blinked several times, not yet understanding what he meant. Meanwhile, Cale simply stared at the doctor with a puzzled expression.

The doctor smiled even more broadly. "Congratulations."

"For what?" Cale's brow furrowed deeply.

"Mr. Miller," the doctor said, looking at Cale with a meaningful smile. "I think it's time you got used to being called Dad."
