He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 7

"I'm perfectly fine, I have no desire to act again, and I certainly don't need your forgiveness. But you, on the other hand, should really take better care of your health. I hear once one eye starts rotting away, the other usually follows close behind."

The entire driveway plunged into a terrifying, dead silence.

The only sound was Nyssa's sudden, sharp intakes of breath. Her gasping became frantic and panicked.

A second later, as if struck by an invisible, agonizing blow, she let out a piercing shriek, clutched her face, and collapsed in a dead faint.

Yorath lunged forward, sweeping her into his arms, and barked an order at Jevon. "Call the hospital. Tell them we're ten minutes out."

Jevon yanked out his keys and sprinted toward his car like a man on fire.

Ottilie followed at a painfully slow, detached pace. She went home and slept flawlessly through the night.

...

The next morning.

She arrived for her hotel shift as usual, only to find the entrance swarming with aggressive paparazzi, livestreamers, and furious fans brandishing cameras.

Nyssa's massive fanbase was holding up vile signs, chanting in unison: "Ban Ottilie Sewell! Burn the witch!"

She slipped in through the service entrance, but her manager immediately summoned her to the back office.

"Ms. Sewell, we're just a respectable hotel. We can't handle this kind of nightmare press. Please, have some mercy on us and just leave."

Ottilie pocketed her wages and walked out the back door.

She carefully counted the cash in her hand. Three hundred and forty-nine dollars. That was every single cent to her name.

Opening her phone, she saw she was dominating the top three trending headlines nationwide.
