He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 64

Since everything was about to fall apart anyway, she might as well tear the facade down.

No more pretending. It would be a relief.

"Do you remember when I said I didn't want to be with you anymore?" she asked.

"Hmm?" Yorath nodded, the smile never leaving his eyes.

It made her scalp tingle with dread.

He was always like this—smiling right up until he sent someone to their doom.

"I..."

Before she could finish, Jevon stormed out of the bathroom, swearing under his breath.

"Found it on the floor! It's his phone."

Yorath acted as if he hadn't heard a thing, keeping his gaze locked entirely on her.

"Go on."

She didn't want to say it anymore.

"I meant it back then."

"And?"

"I still mean it now," she whispered.

He let out a soft laugh. "I see. Let's go." He stood up and led the way out.

As he passed Soren, he ordered in a low voice, "Contact Lachlan. Tell him Ottilie and I invite him to lunch tomorrow at the Sky Garden."

Jevon walked over, tossing Lachlan's phone in his hand with a fake smile.

"Some things are strictly off-limits, Ottilie. Think very carefully before you act. If you have a death wish, feel free to test his bottom line. You can associate with anyone, but not Lachlan Schmidt."

Jevon had always acted as Yorath's mouthpiece.

He was usually the one delivering the warnings.

But he had never been this severe.

She stood up and replied with absolute composure, "You're joking, right? With my track record as a mental patient with a ruined reputation, what makes you think I have the right to test his bottom line?"

She brushed past him and walked out the door.

Rumor had it that Lachlan and Yorath had grown up in the same wealthy neighborhood.

As for how they became mortal enemies, she had only heard vague whispers.
