He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 51

The black eight-ball was reset.

Lachlan Schmidt chalked his cue and took the shot.

The ball circled the lip of the pocket but refused to drop in.

"My skills are clearly inferior to yours, Ms. Sewell," Lachlan said with a rueful sigh. "I concede. What would you like me to do for you?"

"Anything?" Ottilie asked.

"Well, asking me to rip my heart out and hand it to you might be a bit difficult."

Laughter erupted around the room.

It was obvious to everyone that Lachlan was just teasing her.

Any fool knew this was merely a parlor game; no one took the wagers seriously.

But Ottilie did. She walked over to Lachlan, rising on her tiptoes to whisper in his ear, "Is your company hiring?"

Lachlan's pupils contracted. His narrow eyes crinkled slightly, the playful glint in them sharpening into a calculating, assessing stare.

Ottilie continued, "I want to sign with your agency."

"Oh? My company only signs top-tier beauties."

"Is my face not enough of an entry ticket?" Ottilie challenged.

"The face is certainly enough. But to know if someone is a true beauty, you have to see them with their clothes off."

Ottilie glanced down at her outfit. It was entirely tailored to Yorath's preferences—a silk blouse and a flowing black skirt.

Even the way her hair was pinned up had been dictated by his tastes.

"I prefer keeping my clothes on. If you're going to force the issue, Mr. Schmidt, then never mind."

Ottilie gave him a polite nod and turned to leave.

Just as she stepped out the door, she heard him call out, "Ms. Sewell."

She glanced back to see Lachlan leaning against the doorframe, a smirk on his face. "Let's exchange contacts. I'll have my lawyer send over a contract. If everything looks good to you, we can sign."

"Let's stick to email," Ottilie replied.

Lachlan's shoulders shook as he chuckled. "No freedom, huh?"

"Yeah. Strict management," she admitted candidly.

She had zero privacy when it came to her phone; Yorath had access to everything.
