"Yes. I'll take care of my parents right now."
"Mr. Fordham has already handled it," Soren replied smoothly. "He just transferred two hundred thousand dollars into their account. They should have received the notification by now."
Right on cue, the screaming stopped.
She looked over and saw Jevon standing in front of her parents, saying something to them.
Their faces lit up with ecstatic smiles, bowing and scraping in front of him, absolutely desperate to please.
A moment later, Jevon led the two of them over to her.
The moment James saw her, he glared. "Ottilie, Mr. Fordham agreed to bail your brother out. He's our family's greatest benefactor! You make sure you stay by his side and serve him well."
Marie chimed in with deep, parental gravity. "Is it really a bad thing that he wants to put you back in the entertainment industry? What right do you have to refuse? I can't believe you hid something this huge from us."
They spent the next few minutes fiercely scolding her.
Then, James pivoted back to Jevon, practically dripping with sycophancy. "Mr. Crawford, please relay a message to Mr. Fordham. If my daughter ever steps out of line, just tell us. We will absolutely discipline her and send her right back to him, completely corrected."
Jevon just smiled, not bothering to validate the comment. He turned to Soren. "Escort Mr. and Mrs. Sewell home."
James had spent his entire life being looked down upon, valuing his pride over his own life.
Now, being treated with such deference by an elite like Jevon, his face was flushed with absolute triumph.
Marie was equally thrilled. She pulled Ottilie aside for one last warning.
"Ottilie, Mr. Fordham has been more than generous. Stop acting out, or you're going to ruin whatever affection he has left for you. What will you do then?"
Ottilie pressed her lips tightly together, saying nothing.
Marie kept going. "Don't forget your place. It's a blessing that you even get to serve a man like him. Don't be delusional and think you can actually marry him. Just play nice with his future wife, and he'll make sure you're well taken care of."
Jevon brought Ottilie up to the firm.
Sitting across from Yorath at his desk, she was still zoning out.
"I've set up a meeting with some investors and a director for tonight. You're coming with me."
Snapping out of her daze, Ottilie offered a faint smile. "Yorath, our current contract still has two years left."
