Yves's case had been a bloody, chaotic storm on the internet for nearly a month, but it finally came to a close.
Since Ottilie was a key witness, she went down to the station with him.
The official investigation concluded that Daisy Yeager's father had seen how generous they were with money and assumed they were incredibly wealthy, deciding to extort them for a massive payout.
What he didn't expect was that Yves utterly refused to settle, completely unafraid of ruining his reputation. Yves insisted on a scorched-earth investigation, which not only thwarted the extortion attempt but also earned the father a shiny pair of handcuffs.
Yet, from Yves's setup to Ottilie's kidnapping, the masterminds had executed perfect crimes, leaving absolutely zero tangible evidence behind.
As Ottilie and Yves walked out of the police station, they bumped directly into Yorath Fordham by the entrance.
Through the glass doors, Yorath's intensely elegant, scholarly face looked as unapproachable and commanding as ever.
He was flanked by several lawyers from his firm, clearly there on official business.
Yves pushed the doors open and warmly greeted him.
"Mr. Fordham, thank you so much for clearing my name."
They both knew that without Yorath's intervention, Yves would have undoubtedly faced prison time.
"Don't mention it," Yorath replied evenly, shifting his gaze to Ottilie. "Are you fully recovered?"
"I am. Thank you for taking care of me last time, Mr. Fordham," Ottilie replied with a polite, detached smile.
Yves looked at Ottilie in surprise. "You were sick? When?"
"Just a few days ago. It was a minor cold, but I'm completely fine now. I just got my paycheck, so I'm taking you out to eat."
Yves's nightmare was finally over, and they needed to celebrate to wash away the bad luck.
"Sounds great!" Yves beamed, then turned politely back to Yorath.
"Mr. Fordham, you should join us. You helped me out so much, and I haven't properly thanked you yet."
Yorath's expression didn't shift. "Ms. Sewell already covered your legal fees, Mr. Walden. There's no need to thank me."
He then looked directly at Ottilie. "Speaking of those legal fees, we need to talk. Wait for me in my car."
"Alright." Ottilie gently pulled Yves aside, leaving the entryway clear for Yorath and his team.
Yorath's gaze briefly dropped to where her hand held Yves's sleeve. His thick eyelashes twitched, but he wordlessly led his entourage inside.
