Sebastian listened to him with genuine focus.
He paid attention right up until the car pulled to a stop outside the restaurant.
He helped Kyle out of the vehicle, and The Driver took the car away.
Given the hour, the place was packed with diners.
Helena had texted him earlier, instructing them to enter through the back door.
Because of that, their arrival didn't attract any unwanted attention.
The moment Kyle spotted Helena, he sprinted right toward her. "Helena!"
She caught the boy in a full embrace, a helpless but fond smile on her lips.
Kyle was eager to hand over his drawings and the gifts he had brought for her and Skye.
Helena accepted them with a warm laugh.
The two of them chatted seamlessly, their dynamic completely natural.
As for the food, Skye had already ordered like a seasoned regular.
"Let me tell you, these are Cart Noodles. It's definitely not regular instant ramen. You have to try it," Skye told Kyle with a bright smile.
It looked like a fairly standard bowl of noodles.
Whether he was just starving or simply ecstatic to be with them, Kyle devoured it enthusiastically.
"Is it good?" Skye asked.
"Yeah..." Kyle mumbled through a mouthful of food.
"The Beef Brisket Noodles are actually way better. The broth is amazing. Next time we'll have Lena take us to her favorite spot. It's the best, except she always adds way too much chili oil."
"Okay..."
"Oh, and the Fish Balls are awesome too. Right, we also need to get that Insta-Worthy Ice Cream. It tastes pretty average, but it looks great in photos."
"Mhm..."
"The night view here is stunning. We have to ride The Ferris Wheel together. There's also Disneyland, which is super convenient, even if it's a bit small."
...
Skye listed off the local attractions like a professional tour guide.
Kyle was sweating profusely as he ate, nodding vigorously at everything she said.
Sebastian likely knew this, which was exactly why he acted so brazenly.
She didn't call him out on it, offering a flat reply instead. "I'm not that hungry."
He cast a glance at her but left it at that.
They sat there until both kids were completely stuffed.
Helena had barely touched the food in front of her.
"I'm full." Kyle let out a small burp.
Skye rubbed her little stomach. "Me too."
Helena offered a soft hum. "Shall we head back then?"
"Okay," Kyle agreed.
"You had a long trip from Riverton today. Get some rest tonight, and tomorrow I'll take you out to play. Coralia isn't huge, but there are plenty of fun spots. We can take our time, alright?" she coaxed, crouching down to his eye level.
Perhaps it was because she herself severely lacked a sense of security.
That was why she could see it so clearly in him the moment they met.
