At that moment, her face was a bit pale, but she desperately forced a facade of grace. "Let's head to our private room first."
She walked gracefully toward their destination, her expression betraying absolutely nothing for the rest of the walk.
Halfway through the meal, she excused herself, claiming she needed to take a phone call, and slipped out of the room.
Once inside the restroom, she stared at her ghostly reflection in the mirror, her hands gripping the edges of the vanity until her knuckles turned white. Outside the stalls, the muffled voices of two women drifted in.
"So what if she grew up with him? If he doesn't love her, he doesn't love her. Even after giving him a daughter, she still gets the cold shoulder."
"He didn't even glance at her earlier, but he was so gentle with the woman he was holding. Do you think he's keeping a mistress on the side?"
"I've never heard any rumors about him having a woman on the side, though. Hasn't he been insanely busy lately?"
"God, he's just so stunning. I've never seen anyone that gorgeous. So that's what he looks like when he's holding a woman."
"Speaking of which, did you hear that old rumor? He was drugged overseas once and locked in a room with a woman for an entire night. When they finally found him the next morning, the woman was tied up tight and tossed in the bathroom, while he had smashed a mirror and used the glass to maintain his sanity."
"My brother mentioned something about that. Apparently, the drug was extremely potent—no one could have normally resisted it."
The two women kept gossiping, their voices rising as their fascination with Nelson grew increasingly obvious.
When women started getting curious about a man, it was the first step toward obsession.
In their world, Nelson had always been the golden boy. Now, as the heir to the Saint family empire, even his supposed married status didn't stop a horde of women from eyeing him like a prize.
Listening to their thinly veiled pity, a twisted, ugly darkness flashed in Lydia's eyes, contorting her usually flawless features.
She pulled out her makeup bag and aggressively applied foundation, desperate to hide the pallor of her face.
