Juniper's ankles were securely bound to the heavy wooden bedposts. Without a single foot of slack to maneuver, her only option was to violently kick out at him.
But the sheer difference in physical strength between a man and a woman was staggering, completely magnified by the sedatives running through her veins.
The fabric tore violently, exposing her bare shoulder. Juniper's pupils shrank to pinpricks, absolute despair threatening to swallow her whole.
Corbin leaned in, his lips inches from her skin, preparing to take what he wanted.
Suddenly, a deafening crash erupted behind him. Before he could even process the sound, he was yanked upward by the back of his neck and hurled through the air. He slammed brutally into the wooden screen, nearly coughing up blood on impact.
Juniper's heart hammered against her ribs. The sticky blood from her forehead stung her eyes, making it difficult to keep them open.
In the next agonizing second, the blood-soaked ropes around her wrists were swiftly cut away.
Corbin scrambled to his feet, hurling curses, but he didn't recognize the man standing over him. "Who the hell are you?!"
Alistair Vaughn took off his jacket, draped it over Juniper, and stood up.
Intimidated by Alistair's lethal calmness, Corbin instinctively backed away, only to trip over a shattered chair. He hit the floor hard, whining in pain.
Juniper sat trembling on the edge of the bed, her wrists completely raw and coated in blood.
Alistair pulled a clean handkerchief from his pocket and gently wiped the blood from her bruised forehead. Without a word, he scooped her up into his arms. "I'm taking you home. You need to sleep."
Juniper shivered violently, burying her face into his chest, entirely mute.
Corbin remained crumpled on the floor, groaning in agony, completely powerless to stop Alistair from walking out.
Alistair carried Juniper all the way to the elevator. As the metal doors slid open, they walked straight into Nelson and Lydia.
Juniper was completely swallowed up by Alistair's oversized jacket. Exhausted and broken, she kept her face pressed against his chest, leaving only her pale profile visible.
In a blur of motion, Nelson lunged forward and grabbed Alistair by the collar!!
Alistair was shoved backward, his spine hitting the back wall of the elevator with a heavy thud.
The elevator doors smoothly closed, and the car began to descend.
Nelson's gaze burned with pure fury. "What did you do to her?"
