He Gave Me Hearing, Then Taught Me What Silence Really Means novel Chapter 31

Her body felt as if it were burning from the inside out as his lips trailed down her neck, leaving a string of heated marks in their wake.

His hand slid down to intertwine with hers, and the cold, hard metal of his wedding band pressed against Juniper's fingers, sending a glacial chill straight to her core.

She froze, all the color draining from her face in an instant.

Homewrecker. Slut. Shameless. Can't survive without a man...

The vicious insults flashed through her mind like a never-ending slideshow, blinding and suffocating.

A sharp pain pierced her eardrums. She instinctively clamped her hands over her ears, the agony tearing at her senses.

Nelson stiffened. Noticing her reaction, he pulled back, chest heaving. "Are your ears hurting?"

The moment the words left his mouth, a heavy slap landed squarely on his cheek.

His head snapped to the side, a stark red handprint blooming instantly across his fair skin.

He licked a drop of blood from the corner of his mouth, his gaze darkening with mockery. "You drugged that water. I thought it meant you wanted this. Or was that little setup meant for someone else?"

She shoved him away with all her might, slapped a hand over her mouth, and sprinted toward the bathroom.

The sound of wretched gagging echoed from down the hall.

Nelson touched his bruised lip. Listening to her agonized retching, he crossed his arms and leaned against the bathroom doorframe.

The space inside was cramped, barely forty square feet. With the toilet taking up most of the room, there was only enough space left for a small sink littered with flattened toothpaste tubes and cheap drugstore moisturizers.

Juniper rinsed her mouth out with water, her eyes rimmed red from vomiting.

Nelson watched her, arms still crossed. He was too tall, his broad frame making the tiny bathroom feel suffocatingly small. There wasn't even enough room for the two of them to turn around.

Juniper caught his taunting, cynical reflection in the mirror, and her fists clenched.

He stepped inside, trapping her between his chest and the edge of the sink. "Turns out I misunderstood your intentions. I figured since you hadn't had a boyfriend all these years, you were missing what we used to have."

Juniper slowly closed her eyes. The confined space amplified his oppressive, predatory aura to unbearable levels.

Her fingers gripped the porcelain edge so tightly her knuckles turned white. "Nelson, you are a complete bastard."

He raised an eyebrow, letting out a dark chuckle at the insult, though he did take a step back.
