Chapter 159
(DeLuca’s POV)
– Early The Next Day –
The apartment had grown quiet with Daisy and Lilian leaving for school. I wasn’t planning on going early hence why I was still in. My thoughts wouldn’t let me focus on anything so what’s the point of getting to the field before everyone else? Plus I hadn’t really slept properly last night.
For several moments, I sat on the bed and remained exactly there with my elbows resting on my knees.
The room looked smaller than before. Or maybe I was simply seeing properly for the first time.
I ran a hand through my hair and exhaled slowly while my right fist instinctively clenched. I stared at it, then slowly opened it.
What’s wrong with me?
The question had been repeating itself for weeks now.
I wasn’t supposed to be reacting this way. I wasn’t supposed to care.
I wasn’t supposed to be standing in hallways watching who she spoke to or getting tense over videos with her in it.
I wasn’t supposed to be doing any of this and nothing about this situation should have mattered. And yet it did.
I leaned back into the bed and my eyes went close. This was exactly why people became liabilities. This was exactly why attachments were stupid.
The moment you start making exceptions, things got messy. The moment you start compromising, things stopped making sense.
I had compromised. That was the problem. I had stayed too long. I had gotten involved and 1 had started paying attention.
And now I was sitting in a room questioning my own reactions like some idiot who didn’t know better.
The realization irritated me enough that my hand slammed against the table beside the bed. The sound cracked through the room. Then silence followed while I stared at the tabletop before looking away and rising to my feet.
If I stayed in the room much longer with how I was feeling, something else would suffer. Back home, anger had solutions. There were rage rooms. Punching bags. Men willing to spar.
There were a hundred ways to get rid of aggression and this apartment offered none of them. So I left the room.
