Colin, meanwhile, didn’t seem bothered in the slightest. With one arm wrapped around Audrey’s waist and a triumphant grin on his face, he waved casually at Justin’s retreating figure.
Riley and Sebastian exchanged an amused glance at the playful display and chuckled softly.
On the drive home, the city lights streamed past in a blur as the car moved smoothly through the night streets.
Riley had enjoyed a glass or two of wine earlier, and now the gentle buzz was settling in, making her feel relaxed and sleepy.
She let out a soft yawn and naturally leaned her head against Sebastian’s shoulder, closing her eyes.
Sebastian had also indulged a bit that evening, so he wasn’t behind the wheel.
The hired driver kept the ride steady and quiet.
Turning his head, Sebastian watched Riley’s peaceful sleeping face beside him. He reached over and gently brushed his thumb along the curve of her chin.
He knew she’d been under a fair amount of pressure lately.
Even though she never complained to him and always carried herself with energy and composure, Sebastian would still catch races of weariness in her eyes now and then.
She reminded him of a sunflower–standing tall through wind and rain, always turning toward the light, never bending.
And he wanted nothing more than to be the steady support behind her, sheltering her from whatever storms he could.
With that thought, his expression softened. He leaned down and pressed a light, tender kiss to her forehead.
The next day, at Torres Group headquarters, inside the CEO’s office.
When Miranda walked in, her eyes immediately fell on the document in front of Sebastian–the bold header “DreamWorld Project” clearly visible.
‘Seb,” Miranda began, a note of concern in her tone, “are you seriously planning to have the company bid on the DreamWorld nitiative?”
Sebastian didn’t look up, simply replying with a calm, “Mm–hmm.”
‘Mom, this project has strong potential and solid returns. There’s no reason for Torres Group not to throw its hat in the ring.”
‘But…” Miranda hesitated, then voiced what was on her mind. “I heard Riley is personally leading Harper Group’s team on this you wo just got married, and now you might end up competing publicly. In a bidding situation, there’s always a winner and a loser! ust worry–what if it creates tension between you? That wouldn’t be good for either of you.”
Sebastian let out a low, warm laugh.
“Mom, you’re overthinking it,” he said patiently. “You know Riley. If I held back in a fair business competition just because she’s my wife or worse, stepped aside altogether–she’d actually be upset with me.
“She’s a true professional. She doesn’t let personal feelings interfere with work. No matter who’s on the other side, she gives it her

all. And I respect hoth her ability and her mindset. Even if she doesn’t win the project, she’s not one to hold it against anyone.”
Miranda felt her worries ease considerably.
She studied her son’s focused, determined profile and felt a swell of pride.
Of course, she thought. How could she have forgotten? Riley had her own career and her own sense of pride.
Perhaps this kind of mutual respect and healthy competition was exactly what a strong marriage looked like.
“You’re right,” Miranda said, her smile returning. “I was probably worrying too much.”
She then shifted topics. “Anyway, your father hasn’t been feeling his best lately, and his doctor’s been advising more rest. You’ll likely need to take on a bit more here at the company moving forward.”
“I know,” Sebastian acknowledged with a nod.
Miranda turned to leave, assuming he was diving back into work, when Sebastian spoke up again.
“Mom, there’s actually something I’d like you and Dad to help me with.”
Miranda paused, genuine surprise flashing across her face.
Her son had been fiercely independent for so long that she rarely had the chance to step in and assist. It had been years since he’d actively asked for their help.
She turned back, pleased and feeling warmly needed. “What is it?”
Sebastian smiled. “The wedding–Riley and I want to set the date for the twentieth of next month.”
“The twentieth?” Miranda quickly counted in her head, then her eyes widened. “That’s so soon! That’s less than a month away. Isn’t that a bit rushed? Should we consult someone to pick a favorable date?”
“No need,” Sebastian replied warmly. “That day is Riley’s birthday. It’s the perfect date for us.”
“Well then, that’s wonderful!” Miranda beamed. “Your father’s been antsy with nothing to do–this will give him a great project to focus on!”
Meanwhile, Riley shared the same news with the Harper family.
Zavier was recovering well and was scheduled to be discharged home in two days.
