Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 91

Sasha frowned at his stubbornness. “If you want to say that in front of me, fine. If Grandma hears it, she’ll tear you apart.”

She shook her head, still annoyed. It had only been something the adults joked about when they were kids, and he had held onto it all these years.

“And don’t forget,” she added, “Winter is your sister–in–law now.”

“She’s getting ready to divorce Chris,” Steve said, turning his watch slightly on his wrist. “Before long, she’ll be single.”

Sasha narrowed her eyes and gave him a long look. “Oh, is that so?”

“Even if she’s single, and even if she’s willing to be with you, I wouldn’t agree,Sasha said. “You need a wife who helps your career and supports you. Winter may be capable and beautiful, but she has no parents and no background. She can’t help you.

The elevator reached the first floor.

Steve held the elevator door with one hand and glanced sideways at Sasha. A smile tugged at his lips.” Winter is going to be mine. And the Xander Empire will be mine too. When that day comes, I won’t need a wife to help me climb. I’ll have Winter, and that will be enough.”

As people approached the elevator, Sasha’s expression stayed calm. She looked away and walked out with composed, unhurried steps.

After Sasha got into her car and drove off, Steve didn’t leave right away.

He tilted his head toward his assistant and said, “Tell him to clean up every trace. I don’t want Chris finding anything that leads back to us.”

He was about to get into his own car when he caught sight of someone stepping out of a nearby vehicle.

He stayed where he was and watched with mild interest.

Only when the caregiver lifted Skyla out of the car and settled her into a wheelchair did Steve speak, his tone half amused. “You’re really going out of your way. If someone didn’t know better, they would think you were Chris’s wife.”

Skyla looked up at him calmly and motioned for the caregiver to start pushing.

Steve strode over and blocked her without any effort. “I heard Chris and Winter are talking divorce. Are you going to do anything about it?”

“Ms. Jasper?” the caregiver asked, eyeing Steve warily.

Skyla gave her a reassuring look before turning back to Steve. “Winter may not end up being yours, but Chris will always be mine. The one who should be anxious is you, not me.”

As she undressed, her heart sank. There were small, spotted bloodstains on her underwear. She did the math in her head. Her period was several days early.

Of all the times to start, it had to be during a fever.

Perhaps it was the stress of the illness, or the bone–deep chill she had endured in the snowy valley, but she felt a dull, heavy ache beginning to throb in her lower abdomen. It wasn’t a sharp pain, but it was impossible to ignore.

She climbed back into bed, the dragging sensation in her womb intensifying. Tossing and turning in

discomfort, she eventually drifted into a hazy sleep.
