Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 80

She had forgotten that when she was drunk, she had already asked him that question.

“Were you hoping it was me?”

Winter could vaguely feel something cold behind her head, probably a dry branch pressing against her skull. She shook her head weakly, and the world tilted.

Hoping?

Her head had fallen against Chris’s thigh. She didn’t have the strength to lift it again. A faint, fragile laugh escaped her lips.

“I never let myself hope for that. Not even once.”

Her breath brushed against him. The warmth of it seeped into his leg. His hand paused. When her body suddenly went limp, he quickly cupped the back of her head.

The heat shocked him.

“Winter!”

His hand slid to her shoulder as he pulled her fully into his arms and sat down in the snow.

She barely had any awareness left. She slumped weakly against his chest.

His hand moved lower, finding hers. Her palm was ice cold.

But her temperature was still rising.

“Winter!” He supported the back of her head with one hand and lightly patted her cheek with the other.

She only let out a faint, pained sound. Nothing else.

His expression darkened. He grabbed her hand and shoved it under his shirt, pressing her frozen palm against his waist.

It didn’t help.

Her skin was too cold. The chill was bone–deep, beyond what his body heat could thaw.

He stripped off his cashmere sweater and tightened her coat around her. Then he wrapped the sweater around her neck.

The scent of blood clung faintly to the fabric, but in her fading state, she didn’t notice.

Now wearing only a thin shirt, Chris lowered his head close to her. His straight nose brushed her cheek as he breathed warm air against her face.

“The helicopter is almost here. Open your eyes. Don’t fall asleep.”

In the freezing wilderness, she gave no response. Her body burned hotter, but her hands grew colder.

Her voice was so faint he had to press his ear to her lips to catch the words.

“A divorce.”

There was no surprise in his expression. His pale lips parted slightly.

In the distance, the sound of helicopter blades grew louder, echoing through the mountains.

A beam of light cut through the thick mist from the valley above, and Gavin descended on a rope from

the aircraft.

Chris tightened his hold on the barely conscious woman in his arms. His dark eyes gleamed with an intensity that was almost frightening. A faint, unreadable smile crossed his face.

“Even heaven won’t let me agree to that.”
