Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 67

Chapter 67

Since Winter had arrived at the Xander Corporation in the news van that morning, she didn’t have her

own car.

After walking out of the building, she opened a ride–hailing app and requested a car. It was rush hour, and there was a long queue. While waiting, she stepped to the side of the road and scrolled through the news on her phone.

A black sedan drove past her. Because she was looking down, she didn’t see the pair of dark, unreadable eyes inside the car watching her.

More than twenty minutes later, she arrived at the restaurant. From a distance, she spotted Zac seated by the window. She waved, and he stood with a smile.

“Sorry, Zac. Traffic was terrible,” she said.

She had promised him a meal after the hospital visit. Since they both had a free afternoon, it was the perfect time to catch up.

Zac pulled out a chair for her. “It’s fine. I just got here myself.”

After she sat down, the dishes began arriving one by one.

Winter glanced at the table and froze.

Every dish was something she liked. Even the dessert was her favorite.

As Zac ladled soup into her bowl, he said gently, “I was not sure if your tastes have changed over the past three years.”

Winter was genuinely surprised by his memory. She had always been a creature of habit. The same foods, the same brand of body wash, year after year. She was not someone who changed easily.

That stubborn consistency had once applied to the person she loved, too.

But that was the one thing she had finally decided to let go.

As for everything else, she had never bothered to change. Zac had always been attentive. Of course he would remember.

“I heard you’re planning to divorce Chris,” he said suddenly.

Her hand paused midair as she picked up a piece of food. She looked up at the refined, composed man across from her. “Are you here to talk me out of it?”

Just like Mrs. Xander Sr. had tried to persuade her not to stay angry at Chris.

If it had only been anger, there might still have been room to fix things.

But what she felt now was something colder.

“That was back then,” she replied, suppressing the bitterness in her voice. “Feelings change. No one can hold on forever to a love that never gets a response. And besides…”

“I didn’t expect Winter’s ‘plans‘ were a lunch date with Zac,” she said softly with a smile. “I remember back in the day, Zac was always so protective of her. He used to look after her in ways she never even knew about.” 1

Before getting into his car, Zac said, “If you ever need help with anything, don’t hesitate to ask.”

She nodded with a small smile.

She didn’t take it too seriously. Zac and Chris were close friends. If she insisted on divorcing Chris, Zac

wouldn’t stand on her side.

In this world, only William supported her without condition.

After watching Zac’s car disappear, she headed home, planning to take a short nap before returning to the station to prepare for her next interview.

She stepped into the elevator and turned to press her floor.

Just as the doors began to slide shut, a tall figure stepped into the opening. A hand shot out and caught the doors before they could close.
