Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 462

Chapter 462

She was desperate for the answer, yet terthed bf hearing the truth

But when Chris fell silent, she grabbed his arm and held on tightly. She looked up at him, and said, “You said you wouldn’t he to me again.”

Her fingers were trembling

Her mind was already on the verge of collapse, and her battered body couldn’t take another blow.

Chris couldn’t bear to let that happen either.

The struggle inside him broke apart in an instant. His voice came out hoarse.

“Yes.”

That single word landed on Winter’s heart like a crushing weight.

Her vision went black, and the whole world seemed to tilt and spin.

The moment her grip on his arm went slack, Chris caught her hand and steadied her. With his other hand, he carefully supported her shoulder, letting her weakened body lean against him.

His palm tightened, drawing her close against his chest.

He lowered his head and removed the protective face shield from her. Then he gently wiped away the tears rolling down her face. “That’s why I said he needs you right now,” he said. “You have to pull yourself together. Do you understand?”

Winter squeezed her eyes shut and clutched the front of Chris’s clothes with both hands.

In the empty isolation area, her muffled sobs broke from his arms.

William waited for Winter outside.

At last, when the outermost isolation door opened, he saw her. He immediately pushed the wheelchair forward.

But before he could get close, he noticed how red her eyes were. It was obvious she had just cried hard.

Even so, he could clearly see that her eyes were no longer empty.

There was light in them now.

The light of wanting to live.

He blinked against the heat in his own eyes and finally let out a breath of relief.

Then, as if he had suddenly remembered himself, he turned to Chris and gave a small respectful rod.

“I didn’t mean there would be anything wrong with him looking like you, Mr. Xander.”

When they reached the door to Winter’s room, she sat in the wheelchair and caught sight of Chris from the corner of her eye.

Her voice was calm and distant.

“Mr. Xander, you should go back.”

There was no warmth in her tone. No emotion at all.

Chris stopped midstep, his fingers curling slightly.

William glanced at him.

“You’re injured, Mr. Xander. You should go back and rest,” he said. “Winnie has me here. I’m her best friend. What about you? What title do you have that gives you the right to stay by her side?”

Then he cut off whatever Chris might have said next.

“And even if you say you’re the child’s father, that’s between you and the child. It has nothing to do with Winnie. Please go back, Mr. Xander.”
