Chapter 439
By then, Winter would learn that Richie had absorbed the poison from her body. While she would hate Skyla, no one could guarantee she wouldn’t do something cruel to herself too.
Chris would never take that risk again.
Since he had already kept the truth from her for this long, a few more days wouldn’t make much difference. “Before that, can you at least eat something?” Dominic said. “She won’t…”
He suddenly realized what he had almost said.
He couldn’t tell Chris that Winter had skipped breakfast. Wendy had brought food in, and it had come back out untouched. Even William hadn’t been able to do anything with her.
If Chris found out, who knew how much he would worry?
So Dominic quickly changed course.
“She won’t fall for this act of yours!”
Chris’s fingers paused over the scar between his thumb and forefinger. Then he leaned back against the headboard, his face calm.
“I’m not putting on an act. I never expected her to fall for anything.”
“Are you going to eat or not?” Dominic picked up the bowl of oatmeal from the table and sat down heavily on the edge of the bed. He lifted the spoon as if he was about to feed Chris himself. “If you won’t eat, I’ll feed you.”
But Chris only lifted his eyes slowly, and Dominic’s hand froze in midair.
“Try it.”
Chris’s cool voice carried a clear warning.
Dominic had no doubt that if he really tried to feed Chris, even in Chris’s current condition, Chris would still kick him straight into the wall.
Men with too much pride were terrifying.
It was bad enough that he insisted on acting fine in front of Winter. But did he really have to keep up that pride in front of Dominic too? They had practically grown up in matching diapers.
“You should all go home and get some rest.” Chris coughed lightly a few times.
Dominic’s chest tightened at the cough. “Are you going to eat or not?”
“I’ll eat once you leave.”
Dominic was speechless.
“Fine. You’d better keep your word.”
Not long after, Dominic and Zac left. Before walking out, Dominic made sure to remind Gavin to keep a close eye on Chris and stop him from doing anything reckless. He was only going home to shower and change, and he would be back soon.
Chris picked up the bowl of oatmeal and began eating.
No matter how Zion tried to persuade her, she wouldn’t lie down and rest, and she wouldn’t eat.
Knock, knock.
There was a knock at the door.
Zion thought it was a nurse making rounds, so he called out, “Come in.
The door opened from the outside.
The moment Zion saw who had come in, he froze.
“Ms. Scott, it’s…”
Winter’s long hair covered the side of her face.
Then she heard the soft tap of something striking the floor near the door.
Her lashes trembled slightly. She slowly lifted her eyes and turned her head.
At the doorway stood a tall man leaning on a cane.
He wore a black baseball cap and a black face mask.
