Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 430

“Why did you drive my parents to their deaths? Tell me, Chris. Tell me!

“They were the people I loved most, and you killed them!”

His face looked as if the rain had washed every trace of color from it. There was a chilling coldness to him. His lips moved.

“They got what they deserved.”

Those five words, utterly devoid of warmth, struck her heart like thunder.

She stumbled back. Her lips parted, but no sound came out. The violent surge of emotion left her unable to breathe. Darkness blurred her vision.

Only the sapphire brooch pinned to her chest still flashed with a brilliant glow.

It was the rare sapphire Chris had won at auction. For half a month, every night after she fell asleep, he had carved and polished it by hand with painstaking care.

The head of the Xander family, a man buried in endless responsibilities, had gone that far for her.

A proposal in a sea of flowers.

How bitterly ironic.

Those two weeks had been nothing but a dream.

The man who had wanted to marry her was the same man who had driven her parents to their deaths.

She removed the brooch and threw it into the crescent–shaped lake without the slightest hesitation. Rain battered her trembling body.

“You actually acted like nothing ever happened!

“Chris Xander, you’re terrifying!”

The forgotten fragments of her past spun through her mind like scenes from a broken film.

Every image was filled with despair. Her own heart–wrenching screams seemed to be carried away by the wind, raw, broken, and tasting faintly of blood.

“I will never marry you. Not unless I’m dead.

“Every second I spent with you makes me regret ever knowing you. I should never have met you. I should never have loved you!

“Why didn’t you drive me to my death too?”

It hurt.

It hurt so much.

Winter sank into endless darkness. She could hear herself crying and screaming. The emotions crashing over her were so overwhelming that her entire body went rigid.

Beep.

Just as the doctor turned to leave, Gavin spoke.

“Tell Mr. Xander that Mrs. Xander is waiting for him.”

The rain in Liono City wouldn’t stop.

At the other end of the emergency room corridor, the elevator doors opened, and Mr. White hurried out.

“How is he?”

It was raining outside. He hadn’t even waited for the bodyguard to pull the car into the garage. He had thrown the door open and rushed straight to the emergency room.

When he saw Gavin and Dominic standing there motionless, his heart sank. His face went pale before he managed to speak.

Gavin glanced at Mr. White’s rain–damp hair and silently shook his head.

His own wound had just been treated. He hadn’t even put his jacket back on and was standing outside the emergency room in a black short–sleeved shirt.

“What about Ms. Winter?” Mr. White asked, his expression heavy.

He took the tissue a bodyguard handed him and clenched it in his hand. His fingers were trembling. He looked so shaken he could barely stand.
