Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 408

Chapter 408

When the blast knocked Skyla off the cliff, she lost consciousness. She had no idea her body had gotten wedged between the rocks jutting out from the cliffside.

Cold rain soaked her from head to toe.

Dazed, she opened her eyes. Gunfire continued above her, and helicopter blades roared overhead.

Rain cut through the searchlights shining down from the helicopters and fell into her eyes. She didn’t feel the sting at all. Instead, she forced her eyes open even wider.

She lifted her hand and looked at the gunshot wound on the back of it. The rain had washed the blood away

until the color had faded.

Once it was washed clean, everything would be fine.

Once it was clean, she could pretend nothing had ever happened.

Where was Chris?

She remembered lunging toward him when the explosion happened. They had fallen over the cliff together.

She looked up. She was already some distance below the mountaintop where she had fallen. Bracing one hand against the rock, she struggled to look down.

Below her was a drop so deep she couldn’t see the bottom.

A cold wind rose from the cliff, turning Skyla’s face deathly pale.

Had Chris and Winter fallen all the way down?

At that thought, something seemed to hollow out inside Skyla’s chest.

A helicopter above was flying toward the cliff. She couldn’t tell whether it belonged to Chris or Fabian.

If it was Fabian’s, then she still had a chance. Fabian wanted what she had, so he would definitely save her. But if it was Chris’s helicopter, then the moment they found her, she would be captured and taken back.

She couldn’t let that happen.

If Chris was dead, then there was no point in her staying alive.

But maybe Chris, like her, wasn’t meant to die.

Chris had always been lucky. No matter how dangerous the situation was, he always found a way out. This time would be no different.

What she wanted most was for Chris to still be alive, and for Winter to have fallen into the abyss and died without a trace.

She had to confirm it herself.

The thought of Chris gave Skyla a powerful burst of strength.

She managed to crawl into the woods.

The forest was overgrown with weeds, and the mud and fallen branches were soaked with rain.

Wet grass slapped against Skyla’s face. She braced one hand against a tree trunk and staggered to her feet. Then she turned and looked back toward the cliff.

The helicopter had just flown over the spot where she had been.

She had almost been found.

Skyla curled her lips and let out a cold, eerie laugh.

Holding on to the tree trunk, she moved forward one step at a time.

Suddenly, her foot hit something.

She looked down.

The moment she recognized it, her blood began to boil.

It was Winter’s jacket.
