Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 393

Chapter 393

A low roar rolled in.

At that moment, several car engines sounded near the docks, one after another. Blinding headlights cut through the thin fog by the river, lighting up the open space in front of the red–roofed house.

Fabian narrowed his eyes, his expression turning cold.

“It’s the Xanders.”

Winter’s breath caught.

Chris knew something had happened to her?

Right. There were warehouses nearby that belonged to companies under the Xander family. They had been sealed off while Chris was under investigation and had only been reopened two days ago.

No wonder his people had gotten here so quickly.

“Move!”

At Fabian’s command, the people around them began moving fast. But their attention had clearly been drawn to the approaching cars.

The gun at Winter’s lower back pressed harder, pushing her forward.

At that moment, she suddenly stomped down hard on the foot of the man behind her.

“Ah!”

The instant he cried out in pain, she turned sideways, grabbed the hand holding the gun, and twisted it sharply in the opposite direction.

In the blink of an eye, she successfully took the handgun from him and pressed the muzzle directly against Fabian’s head.

“Don’t move!”

The men in black who had moved to stop her froze as if someone had hit pause. None of them dared to step forward.

Pairs of hostile eyes locked on her.

The cars were closing in, yet Fabian’s mouth remained curved in that ever–present, chilling smile.

“I really didn’t want to make such a scene.”

Winter sensed something was wrong.

Just as the vehicles reached a point about fifty yards from the red–roofed house, a deafening explosion ripped through the air.

The five cars were tossed aside like toys by explosives buried beneath the ground. A second later, another blast followed, and the wreckage was swallowed by a wall of fire.

The flickering flames danced in Winter’s eyes, casting a ghastly light over her deathly pale face. Her eyes were bloodshot as she pressed the barrel of the gun hard against Fabian’s temple.

What a pity.”

“Since I went through all this trouble to catch you, why would I waste such a perfect opportunity? I couldn’t possibly leave you even the slightest chance to escape.”

He pointed at his own chest.

“Right here. On New Year’s Day, someone tried to kill me. I spent a long time investigating and wasted precious time on my other enemies at the border. But in the end, can you guess who I found behind it?”

He leaned close to Winter’s ear, his voice dropping to a whisper.

“It was the man by Chris’s side. Gavin.”

Winter wrenched her hand back with all her strength. She pulled the trigger twice more before throwing the gun to the ground.

Then she forced herself to calm down.

“If you want revenge, Mr. Kane, go after the person who wronged you. Take it up with Chris.”

“Chris and I have stayed out of each other’s way for years. Why would he suddenly try to have me killed? Haven’t you thought about that, Ms. Scott?”

“He loses his mind all the time. How would I know?”

Fabian looked at the woman playing dumb in front of him. Instead of getting angry, he laughed.

“Interesting.”
