Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 364

Chapter 364

“But if you lie to me, I’ll never tell you where the antidote is. I would rather die than tell you.”

Her voice softened. “So, Chris, don’t lie to me. You know me. I’m not afraid of pain, and I’m not afraid of death. You could use every torture device on that wall, and I still wouldn’t be scared.”

Chris put out his cigarette and turned to go upstairs.

Skyla let out a low laugh.

After Chris publicly clarified to the media that he had nothing to do with Winter, the next step would be making the two of them divorce. Then Chris would marry her and bring her into the Xander family. He would take her into Blackwood Manor.

One day, she would become Chris’s wife.

His only woman.

Just before he went upstairs, Chris suddenly stopped.

“You killed Jacob, didn’t you?”

Skyla’s face turned deathly pale under the light. She stared at Chris’s back, her amber eyes clouded with a bloodshot sheen.

She lowered her head and grabbed at her hair, her fingers trembling.

A long moment passed before she answered.

“Yes.”

“Why?” Chris’s voice was flat, without the slightest trace of emotion.

From the basement below him came the clink of chains.

Skyla’s voice broke with pain. “Because of you. Chris, I killed Jacob all because of you.”

Chris’s dark eyes remained completely calm.

Skyla looked at the unmoved man and struggled against the chains around her ankles.

“Did you think I couldn’t tell why you posted so many people outside Jacob’s hospital room? You weren’t trying to protect him. You were trying to keep Winter away from him.

“That night, Winter injured Jacob in front of too many witnesses. You couldn’t silence everyone. So your only option was to have Jacob treated, wait until he was discharged, and then get rid of him. That way, Winter would be completely cleared of suspicion.”

The thought of Chris doing all that for Winter made Skyla hate her even more.

He walked up the stairs without looking back.

He was ruthless.

Not even a trace of emotion stirred in him because of what she had done for him.

And that made Skyla’s heart turn cold, inch by inch.

Watching him leave, Skyla’s eyes widened. Suddenly, she raised her voice.

“Because if I did it, then you wouldn’t have to kill for Winter!

“As long as I was the one who killed Jacob, you would never have to cross that line for Winter.

“Because I couldn’t bear it.”

She couldn’t bear the thought of Chris throwing away even his own principles for Winter.

She couldn’t bear the overwhelming love he kept buried and restrained for Winter.
