Chapter 349
The wind lifted a corner of the tie covering Chris’s eyes.
Winter watched it flutter, her heart rising and falling with it.
She hadn’t felt much pressure while shooting earlier. But now, with only five shots left for him, she found herself holding her breath.
Chris lifted his hand slightly.
Winter suddenly stood up from her chair.
But he only switched the gun to his left hand.
She froze for a second, then remembered. He was just as skilled with either hand. He just used his right more often.
Chris heard the movement. He also caught the shift in her breathing.
A faint smile touched his lips.
Just as he pulled the trigger, he cleared his throat. His wrist shifted ever so slightly.
Bang.
Winter’s breath caught.
A mechanical voice announced from the display: “Nine.”
She let out a quiet breath of relief, then frowned.
Eight points behind her. Four shots left.
Just as he fired again, a seagull suddenly flew across the range.
Bang.
“One.”
Her heart jumped into her throat.
Three shots left. Seven points apart.
In the quiet range, Chris picked up the faint sound of sand and gravel shifting nearby.
As he pulled the trigger again, a small stone struck the back of his hand out of nowhere.
Bang.
“Four.”
Another stone hit his hand.
Bang.
“Two.”
This one was bigger. It broke the skin on the back of his hand.
One shot left.
The gap was down to a single point.
Winter weighed the egg-sized stone in her hand, her expression tense.
The shot missed.
Winter pulled her hands back at once.
The display announced his final score: “One hundred sixty-six.”
“Deal’s a deal,” she said evenly.
Chris threw the gun aside and yanked off the blindfold.
He turned to her.
Before she could react, he stepped forward, grabbed her, and lifted her up. One arm hooked under her, the other pressed firmly against her back, holding her in place.
“Let me go!”
Her voice was sharp, a mix of anger and panic. Her chest rose and fell quickly.
His gaze dropped for a moment, his throat tightening.
Then he looked back into her eyes, his voice low and rough.
“You won.”
Winter knew she hadn’t won fairly.
Alright, it was beyond unfair.
