Chapter 344
But he didn’t.
As Winter stood there in a daze, the robe in her hands slipped open. Inside, there was a towel and a set of underwear.
By the time she finished and stepped out of the bathroom in the robe, he was already gone.
She walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows and started drying her hair with the towel. This spot was right in the center of the house, facing the same direction as the front entrance.
Suddenly, her hand stilled.
Outside, beyond the house, stretched a wide field of flowers. Chris, still soaked, was striding down the stone path that cut through it.
Where was he going like that?
His pace quickened. His long strides carried him straight toward the shoreline.
Chris was never someone who showed his emotions, but something about his back right now made it clear he was on edge. Like something inside him was about to snap.
A gust of sea wind blew in from the other window, pushing her half-dried hair into her face. She tightened her grip on the towel.
Then she saw it.
He reached the shore and jumped straight into the ocean without hesitation.
No, not just without hesitation.
Almost like he couldn’t wait.
As if he would explode if he delayed even a second.
A chill ran through her. She pulled her gaze away and turned to look for a hairdryer.
She couldn’t find one.
So she went back to the window and kept drying her hair with the towel.
Waves rolled in again and again against the shore.
After a while, her hair was nearly dry from the sea breeze when Chris finally surfaced.
He stayed in the water. Maybe the soaked clothes were bothering him, because he tore open his shirt with one hand, tossed it aside, and dove back under.
Winter instinctively turned her head, as if the splash had hit her.
She looked around the room but couldn’t find anything to tie it with. The flower stem he had used earlier had long since been washed away at sea.
She went back to the closet and opened a drawer on the island. It was filled with ties.
She picked one up and used it to tie her hair.
Then she went into the bathroom and gathered her soaked clothes. After being in seawater, they had a faint smell, so she tossed them all into the trash.
As she turned to leave, something caught her eye.
In a cabinet beneath the sink, a hint of pale blue packaging was visible.
She stepped closer and pulled the drawer open all the way.
Her gaze froze.
Inside was an opened pack of sanitary pads.
This was the master bedroom. Even if the staff came up to clean, they wouldn’t use the owner’s bathroom.
So whose were they?
