Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 285

Chapter 285

After the news broke that Chris had been placed under official investigation, servers across every major social media platform crashed for nearly ten minutes.

The phones in Xander Corporation’s PR department were flooded nonstop. Several major companies with close ties to the Xander Corporation were thrown into panic.

Standing under the sun at Eco Park, Winter listened to the people around her talking about it, her expression calm.

She turned and glanced at the phone in someone’s hand.

Below the article was a photo of Chris being led toward a police car.

Wearing a sharp black suit, Chris stood in front of the police car parked outside the corporation headquarters.

His expression was cool and unreadable, completely calm. He didn’t look like a man about to be taken in for questioning.

If anything, he looked like he was on his way to a high-level business summit, as though he were the most important person there.

“I seriously can’t believe Chris Xander turned out to be this kind of person.’

“I thought people online said he used to be in the military. Shouldn’t someone like that have some sense of honor? If he really did this, it completely tarnishes his past.”

“You really believe everything people post online? There’s no proof. Who knows if he was ever actually in the military?”

“Someone from a family like his is even less likely.”

“He brought this on himself.”

“I used to be a fan of his career and his looks, but now even his face looks different to me.”

“He’s done for. With that amount of illegal drugs, he’ll probably spend the rest of his life in prison.”

“That family spent generations building its reputation, and now he’s the one who ruined it. Mrs. Xander Sr. hasn’t even been gone that long, and he’s already done something like this. Unbelievable. How did a family like that end up with someone like him?”

Winter quietly looked away.

She reached for her water, wanting a sip, only to realize her hand was empty. Then she remembered she had already finished it.

When she went back to the tent the news department had set up, she grabbed a new bottle of water, twisted it open, and took a few sips.

By now, her coworkers had probably all seen the news too. The way they looked at her carried a little extra meaning.

Winter didn’t pay it any mind.

The person they were really looking at was Mrs. Xander, not her.

After the assignment was over, she went back to the station.

Winter did not know how to explain that she and Chris had never actually been legally married in the first place. If she said it out loud, she felt like everyone would look at her like she was a complete idiot.

And the truth was, she had been one for three years.

“Either way, I have nothing to do with him anymore,” she said. “But I’m glad my resignation got approved this quickly. I’ll come in tomorrow and finish the rest of the paperwork.”

Sam let out a sigh.

When Winter got back to her place in Westbay, she had barely opened the door before a blast of music hit her.

“Today is a good day…”

William was sprawled on the couch scrolling through the news on his phone. He clearly hadn’t expected her back this early. Instinctively, he started to sit up, only to tug at the wound in his abdomen.

He sucked in a sharp breath.

Seeing that Winter looked completely fine, something complicated flickered across William’s eyes. He nudged his assistant with the tip of his foot, and the assistant immediately shut the music off.
