His eyes fell on the insignias pinned to their chests. They were all part of Chris’s private security team.

They had been carefully selected and trained by Chris’s maternal family, and their combat ability was far beyond that of ordinary bodyguards.

He hadn’t expected Chris to place them here.

“Mr. Zeller, should we make a move?” the assistant asked quietly.

Sean waited in silence. Then, over the sound of engines approaching, he withdrew his gaze and said evenly, “Chris is here.”

The assistant froze, then turned and saw several black cars driving toward them.

The cars came to a stop behind theirs.

The doors opened, and Chris stepped out dressed all in black. His dark eyes carried the chill of the night as he swept a cool glance over the cars blocking the entrance, his expression distant and unreadable.

From inside the car, Sean’s assistant immediately felt the pressure coming off him. It was the presence of someone who had held power for a very long time.

Sean pushed open the door and got out. He turned to look at Chris standing across from him, tall and straight as a pine, his presence even stronger than before.

Chris. It’s been a long time.”

Sean’s grandfather and Chris’s grandfather had once been close. When Mr. Xander Sr. was still alive, Chris and Sean, being close in age, had crossed paths a few times as children.

But that was all. They were only a little more familiar than most people. Chris had always been distant and never liked letting people get close. Over the years, the only ones who had truly gotten close to him were Dominic and Zac.

“It has,” Chris said coolly. “What are you doing here this late?”

Faced with a man who was clearly asking a question he already knew the answer to, Sean stayed calm.

“Skyla hired someone to commit murder, and William was injured because of her. As his older brother, I’m here to get justice for him.”

“So you came to take her from me?” Chris gave a faint, humorless laugh. Under the cold–toned streetlights, his dark features looked even sharper.

He glanced at the cars Sean had brought. “With them?”

Sean’s assistant looked at the head of the Xander family standing before them. If those words had come from anyone else, they would have sounded wildly arrogant. After all, they had brought more men than the Xander side

Chris’s dark eyes narrowed slightly. “Why don’t you go in and see for yourself?”

One by one, the cars pulled away.

His assistant watched them through the rearview mirror for a moment before looking away. Mr. Zeller, was Skyla really not in there?”

“She was,” Sean said evenly.

“Then why didn’t you…”

Sean’s tone turned meaningful. “Because that was William’s decision. And besides, there was no guarantee we would have walked away clean. We don’t know Chris’s full hand, and Chris doesn’t know ours. A confrontation was never the purpose of this trip.”
