Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 247

The gurney was rushed into the ER, and the heavy doors slammed shut.

The moment they closed, all the strength seemed to leave Winter’s body. She sank to the floor, bracing herself with both hands against the cold tile.

Second by second, time dragged on.

Never in her life had it moved this slowly.

Footsteps sounded behind her. Then a deep, steady voice said, “Help Ms. Scott up.

Two bodyguards stepped forward, lifted her gently, and helped her into a chair.

Still dazed, Winter looked up at the tall, broad–shouldered man standing outside the ER.

It was William’s older brother, Sean Zeller.

Two days earlier, the Zeller family had been thrown into turmoil.

Even though William was rarely home and spent most of his time working, he had always given everything to his family. He had never imagined his own uncle would come after him over the family fortune and try to take the shares he held.

William had only mentioned the danger in passing, but Winter had seen the bandage on his neck. That was enough for her to guess how close it had been.

A big part of why he made it out safely was because Sean had already put people in place behind the scenes. He had seen through his uncle’s plan to grab the family assets and moved first at the last moment.

Sean had originally been tied up overseas with business and hadn’t planned to return for the holiday. But when their uncle made his move, Sean rushed back to Liono City that same day to take charge of the family situation.

Then, as soon as he heard William had been hurt, he came straight to the hospital.

Inside an interrogation room at the police station, the woman sat with her hair in disarray and her wrists cuffed in front of her. Her face looked drained of all life.

A police officer pulled up the surveillance footage, zoomed in, and turned the screen toward her. “Early on the morning of January 30 at the market, is this woman in the video you?”

The woman slowly lifted her head. “Yes.”

“Did you know Mrs. Young?”

“Yes,” she said hoarsely. “I knew her from when I worked at Blackwood Manor more than a year ago.

The two officers exchanged a look.

“Was the drunk man your accomplice?”

The woman shook her head and let out a humorless laugh. “He just happened to see me when I killed Mrs. Young. He was so drunk he barely knew what was going on, so I provoked him on purpose and pinned it on him.”

Just then, there was a knock at the door

The woman’s lips trembled. “Because she caught me stealing at Blackwood Manor and reported me to Mrs. Xander. I lost my job because of that mouth of hers. At first, I didn’t plan to kill her. But for over a year, I couldn’t find steady work. I had no money. All I could do was watch my mother suffer through her illness and watch my child go hungry and cold in that tiny apartment in the dead of winter.”

The woman nodded.

When exactly were you fired?”

She hesitated, clearly trying to remember. “The fall before last…”

Chris’s voice turned even colder. “Who hired you to kill them?”

The woman froze.

All the color drained from her face.
