Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 201

Chapter 201

She was shaking so hard that even the soft bread felt hard to chew.

The moment she first saw Chris last night, she had noticed he wasn’t wearing his glasses. A few times, she had wanted to ask about it, but never did.

So it was true.

After the car accident years ago, he had lost his sight. She had stayed by his side and taken care of him. Every night, she went to the chapel at the Xander estate, knelt down, and prayed that he would see again. She never missed a single day.

For once, maybe her prayers had been answered.

Chris had gotten his sight back, but the damage left behind meant he still had to wear glasses.

She had always known that wanting too much could cost you everything, so she never dared hope for more. But buried deep in her heart was one quiet wish.

She wanted his eyes to be fully healed.

And now they were.

A rush of joy and ache rose in her chest, the kind that came when a wish hidden for years finally came true.

That was enough.

She turned slightly and, with her back to Gavin, wiped quickly at her face with the back of her hand, brushing away every trace of tears. “Did you see Zion before you came to get me? How is he?”

“He was stabbed in the abdomen, but it’s nothing serious. He just needs some time to recover.” Gavin pretended not to notice her reddened eyes.

Then his gaze shifted to Chris walking over, and he quietly stepped aside.

“Finish eating, then go back upstairs and get some more sleep.”

A cup of warm milk was placed by Winter’s hand.

His voice was as cool and calm as ever.

Her gaze moved away from his hand holding the cup. She stuffed another piece of bread into her mouth and muttered without thinking, “That sleeping bag felt like a body bag.”

Chris’s gaze paused. His eyes narrowed slightly.

She really knew how to say the wrong thing.

Still not realizing she had said something unlucky, Winter took one look at his dark expression and quickly changed the subject. “How much longer is the storm supposed to last? William’s flying back today after wrapping his shoot, and I need to go to the airport.”

Chris cut her off, his tone sharp. “I’m not powerful enough to tell a storm what to do. Ask it yourself.”

“So touchy,” Winter muttered under her breath. “I asked because you know more than I do. If you didn’t want to answer, fine. Why get mad about it?”

Last night, the moment she walked in, Chris had backed her into the corner and kissed her, taking what he wanted. After that, the lights had gone out, and she hadn’t been able to see anything.

Now the sky was a little brighter, and the light was on. Without meaning to, she looked around the room.

Her eyes were drawn to a table across from the bed.

There were two drawers beneath it.

The house had obviously been abandoned for a long time. Had the previous owner left anything inside?

With no signal and nothing to do, boredom was making her mind wander.

Winter pulled open one of the drawers.

Inside was a pile of random junk. She was just about to push it shut again when she noticed a photograph lying face down beneath the clutter.

Curiosity got the better of her, and she turned it over.

It was a formal photo of a man and a woman, the kind used for a marriage certificate.

Winter stared at the younger Chris in the picture. His hair was cut short, and there was still a trace of youth in his face.

Her mind went completely blank.
