Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 196

Chapter 196

Chris pulled Winter over to his side and turned on the yacht’s navigation system

Sure enough, a small island showed up on the map nearby. They really could make it there before the storm hit and take shelter.

But with the ocean this dark, how had Chris even known the island was there?

Right now, though, the most urgent thing was Zac. She had to go check on him.

The moment she tried to move, Chris in the driver’s seat stretched out his leg and blocked her path, all while keeping his eyes on the wheel.

“Where are you going?” Chris asked, his voice cool and flat.

Winter’s leg brushed against his hard knee.

She was wrapped in a thick military coat, and the warmth was slowly starting to return to her body. “I’m going to check on Zac. He was shot.”

“Do you know how to remove a bullet?” Chris’s voice turned even colder.

Winter froze for a second, then shook her head. “Of course not.”

“Do you have any medical supplies?”

She shook her head again. How could she possibly have medical supplies on her?

Chris was clearly picking a fight, asking questions he already knew the answer to.

“Then what good are you going to do? Stay where you are.”

The moment he finished speaking, a huge wave slammed into the yacht. It lurched violently, and with Chris’s leg blocking her in, Winter lost her balance and fell straight into his lap.

Chris caught her by the waist without missing a beat and kept one hand on the wheel. Near his ear, he heard her sudden intake of breath, followed by a slow, unsteady exhale.

As the yacht rocked in the waves, Winter kept bumping into him. When Chris drew his leg back, her body tilted with the motion, and the soft curve of her chest pressed against his solid chest.

Chris glanced down at her without saying a word.

Caught off guard, Winter looked up and met his dark eyes. Flustered, she quickly looked away.

Then another hard jolt sent her chin into the hollow of his neck. Chris pressed a hand to the back of her head and held her there against his shoulder.

Their chests were pressed tightly together.

Their hearts had never been this close.

Then he lifted her clean off the ground.

The next second, he planted a boot on the edge of the yacht.

All Winter heard was the howl of the wind in her ears.

Then he landed on solid ground with her still in his arms.

“Get him inside and treat the gunshot wound,” Chris told Gavin.

Gavin nodded. He had already sent people in to clear out the house. They had come in a military helicopter, and there was a rescue kit on board, along with sterile equipment for emergency treatment.

Given the circumstances, this was the best they could do.

Otherwise, Zac wouldn’t survive.

Then icy rain began to fall.

The roaring sea wind made the helicopter blades creak overhead. The abandoned wreckage piled on the beach was picked up and hurled by the storm.

All around them, the only sound was the wind, as if it were trying to tear the whole world apart.
