Chapter 193
The yacht sped across the water, drawing closer and closer to the lighthouse.
Several armed men were on board. They took turns standing watch inside the cabin, keeping their eyes on Zac and Winter.
“Watch them carefully. Don’t screw this up.” One of the older men, broad and rough-looking, barked at a younger guy who couldn’t have been more than twenty.
The younger man cursed under his breath. “What are they supposed to do out here? They’re in our hands, stuck in the middle of the ocean. And we’ve got guns. If they try anything, I’ll put a bullet in him.”
“Better safe than sorry.”
The younger guy clearly didn’t care. He watched the older man head upstairs and curled his lip. They always dumped the boring jobs on him while they looked for chances to slack off.
Out here in the middle of the ocean, no one was coming to save them. He was sure Zac and Winter had no way out. Hugging his gun, he yawned and leaned against the cabin door, half asleep.
They were less than twenty nautical miles from the coastal line now. Once they crossed into those waters, they would be in Fabian’s territory.
As long as they handed Winter over to him, their future would be set.
He was already imagining the money waiting for him when he got back, along with more women than he could handle. The thought of how good life was about to get made him yawn again.
Zac’s injured right hand rested on Winter’s shoulder, guiding her gently toward a more sheltered spot
inside the cabin.
The second he moved, Winter grabbed his sleeve.
She didn’t dare make a sound. All she could do was shake her head at him anxiously.
These men had guns. He was empty-handed, and he wasn’t trained for this kind of fight. How was he supposed to take them on?
At first, they had still shown him some respect because he was a Davis. But if he pushed them too far, these men who lived with blood on their hands, would show their true nature.
Zac’s hand was cold to the bone as he gave the back of hers a light pat. Then he mouthed the words, ”
Don’t be scared.”
No matter what, he couldn’t let them take her to Fabian.
Winter’s fingers tightened around his sleeve until her knuckles turned white. Her eyes were red. Seeing her like that, Zac frowned. God knew how much it hurt him to see her scared like this.
He knew what she was worried about.

But there was no better choice now.
The engine noise and the sound of the waves covered his footsteps on the wooden steps. They blended
right in.
No one heard him.
The three men upstairs were trading filthy jokes, laughing as they talked about Winter.
Zac’s face was cold and still.
He ran the timing through his head. If he fired three shots in a row, he had a fifty-fifty chance of taking
them down before the man in the wheelhouse could make it to the cabin where Winter was.
