Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 146

Chapter 146

Winter winced as pain shot through her wrist.

Chris stared at her with dark, unreadable eyes. His lips were pressed tight, and something complicated flickered behind the frown between his brows.

He loosened his grip on her wrist slightly, but he did not let go. Without a word, he pulled her away from the chaos.

Several black SUVS came barreling straight into the middle of the venue, plowing through rows of guest seating. The crash of splintering tables and broken chairs mixed with gunfire, women screaming, children crying, and men shouting in rage.

With Chris gripping her wrist, Winter dodged through the hail of stray bullets. The noise roared in her ears, and the scene in front of her looked like something out of a war zone.

Masked men dressed in black kept jumping out of the SUVS and chasing after the fleeing guests. Then all at once, the black barrel of a gun swung up and pointed straight at Chris and Winter.

A cold, lethal look flashed through Chris’s eyes.

At the same instant he yanked Winter behind him, he grabbed the attacker’s gun hand. Just as the man pulled the trigger, Chris used brute force to snap his finger and wrench the gun around.

A shot rang out.

The bullet hit the man square in the forehead.

A sick wave of delayed fear crashed over Winter, turning her face pale. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of another masked man in black charging toward them.

The gun spun once in Chris’s hand, the bones in his fingers standing out sharply. One arm locked around Winter’s waist and pulled her against him, while with the other, he fired cleanly.

Winter’s back slammed into his chest, and her blood rushed through her like lava.

Chris turned and fired toward another direction.

Then suddenly, Winter tore herself out of his arms.

A cold jolt shot from Chris’s fingertips straight to his heart, and his body went rigid.

One of the masked men the bodyguards had already taken down suddenly forced himself back to his feet and reached for the gun on the ground.

The man was in Chris’s blind spot, but Winter saw him.

The instant he moved, she tore herself out of Chris’s arms and used the moves Roy had taught her to

knock him back down.

She looked up and met Chris’s dark eyes. Her face flushed so red it looked ready to burst. She did not know if it was because she felt embarrassed by how awkward she must have looked, or because the sudden fight had sent her blood surging.

Meanwhile, the caregiver pushed her wheelchair while the bodyguards guarded her closely and moved her deeper into the senior care center to hide.

Through the crowd of people running in panic, Skyla stared bitterly at the two figures not far away.

After the first gunshots, she had searched everywhere for Chris. She had turned her wheelchair and tried to go after him without caring about the danger, nearly getting hit by a bullet in the process.

She never found him. The fear, worry, and anxiety had left her completely shaken.

And then she saw him here, with Winter.
