At the sound of her footsteps, Roy slowly turned away from the window. Beneath the lowered brim of his baseball cap, only a pair of dark brown eyes were visible.

He gave Winter a slight nod.

She snapped out of it, walked over, and asked casually, “It’s so warm in here. Don’t you get hot wearing a cap and gloves?”

After seeing him a few times, she had realized that even though Roy was a little cold, he was actually pretty easy to get along with. Without even noticing it, she had started speaking to him much more casually.

Roy lowered his eyes and glanced at the black gloves on his hands, then took out his phone and typed a reply.

“It doesn’t bother me.”

Even without a voice, the words still felt cool and distant.

Winter smiled. “Okay, good.”

After setting down her water bottle, she began stretching and warming up.

Roy stood off to the side with his arms crossed, watching her calm and impassive as she bounced and stretched all over the place.

But Winter’s mind was racing.

She kept replaying that strange sense of familiarity from just now.

As she rotated her wrists, she stole another glance at Roy’s build out of the corner of her eye.

“I’m warmed up. Let’s start.”

Winter bounced twice in place, fists clenched, then launched herself at Roy as soon as he stepped into position across from her.

She learned fast. All the moves were already in her head. She still lacked strength, but her punches and strikes were no longer just for show.

Even so, in front of Roy, her attacks were still nowhere near enough. He dodged everything with ease.

Winter missed completely.

Just as she was about to hit the floor, Roy reached out to catch her.

But instead of letting him pull her up, she grabbed his wrist.

Right by her ear, she heard his breathing tighten.

But those eyes showed nothing except cool indifference, flat and still as a frozen lake. There was no reaction at all to the name.

She had overthought the whole thing.

Winter’s face went pale, then flushed red. She stood there and let out an awkward laugh. “Uh… wow. My hand slipped.”

Roy didn’t say word. He simply held out his hand, took the glove back from her, and put it on again.

Winter’s fingertips had gone stiff, but she forced herself to keep a straight face.

Only now did she understand why Roy always wore gloves.

His hands were covered in scars.

What she had just done was basically rubbing salt straight into his wounds.
