Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 138

Chapter 138

Those men were all from the border region and didn’t know who Chris was.

But the cold, commanding force in his presence was so overwhelming that it stopped them in their tracks anyway.

The mask on Winter’s face kept pulling inward with every ragged breath.

In her ears was the steady, powerful beat of his heart, thudding again and again against her eardrums. She hated him, yet in a moment like this, she was still forced to rely on his power to protect her. The split between those feelings tore at her so hard it hurt. She wanted to break free, grab Zion, and run for the stairwell.

But before she could move, Chris had already let her go and pushed her behind him.

Winter’s breathing was still unsteady. Something flickered in her eyes above the mask as she stared at the broad back in front of her.

The men blocking Chris’s path quickly stepped aside, opening a path down the middle.

The polished man from earlier walked toward them with calm, measured steps. He smiled faintly. “So you’re Mr. Xander. I’ve heard a lot about you.”

Chris gave a faint smile. “Mr. Kane. I didn’t expect to see you here.”

Winter suddenly realized who he was.

This smiling man, with danger hidden beneath every word, was Fabian Kane, the one people in the border region feared most.

Everyone from the private room had come out now. The wide hallway was suddenly packed with dark figures.

Everywhere she looked, they were Fabian’s men.

Each one had a bulge at his waist, clearly carrying a weapon.

And Chris only had two people with him.

Gavin, who could take on ten men by himself.

And Winter.

Fabian looked at the man standing before him. Chris was several years younger, but his presence didn’t lose to Fabian’s in the slightest. If anything, it was even stronger.

In a mild voice, Fabian said, “My men are used to doing things their own way out in the border region. If they stepped out of line with you, Mr. Xander, I apologize on their behalf.”

Fabian’s smile thinned. “So you’re protecting her.”

The moment the words left his mouth, his men all reached for their waists.

Winter heard the scrape of weapons shifting, and her face went stiff.

Then Chris’s voice rang out, calm and steady, every word landing hard.

“Fabian Kane. This is Liono City, not your turf.”

For the first time, a crack showed in the polished man’s expression. A moment later, he let out a low

laugh.

“In that case, I overstepped. Sorry to trouble you, Mr. Xander.”

The hands that had been reaching for weapons fell away, and the wall of men slowly parted.
