Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 1240

An outsider?

When the Mercer family followed Lillian's gaze and saw Sebastian Blake approaching, their faces collectively drained of color.

They truly were one big, happy family.

Seeing their horrified reactions, Lillian merely offered a mocking smile. "Sebastian is Bella Ward's husband, the son-in-law of the Mercer family. No matter how you spin it, he's family. Not an outsider, right?"

Her words nearly made Martin and Sabrina choke on their own rage.

Family?

After their disastrous wedding and the endless, messy divorce proceedings that followed, calling them family was a stretch. The only lingering blood tie binding Sebastian to the Mercers was little Noah.

Sure, technically he wasn't a total stranger.

But having him witness this was infinitely more humiliating than any outsider.

Sebastian had initially felt a surge of anticipation. He had visited Halfridge Villas a few times, but this was the first time he had actually been allowed inside.

He assumed Lillian had finally softened her stance because their son was back.

He certainly hadn't expected to be led into the garden to witness this spectacular show.

It was a complete surprise.

And from the looks of it, the main actors weren't exactly thrilled to have him in the audience.

Lillian's lips curved into an icy smirk. "Why is everyone so quiet? Since you're all here, let's pick up where we left off.

"I'm actually quite eager to hear the rest of Mrs. Mercer's heartfelt confession."

Sebastian had been stunned the moment he saw Martin and Sabrina groveling before Eleanor.

Now, hearing about a 'confession,' his curiosity was entirely piqued.

He hadn't paid much attention to the Mercer family's affairs lately, but he knew the Mercer Group was in dire straits.

Knowing exactly how arrogant the Mercers usually were, Sebastian fully intended to enjoy the show. For them to stoop this low, the Mercer Group had to be teetering on the edge of total collapse.

Sebastian wasn't foolish either. She usually wouldn't give him the time of day, yet here he was.

It was obvious she only let him in so he could watch this humiliation unfold.

Desperate to repair his relationship with Lillian, Sebastian obediently stood aside, playing the role of the silent spectator.

Sabrina had barely managed to force the words out earlier, but with Sebastian standing right there, her throat completely closed up. She couldn't utter another syllable.

It was just too humiliating.

After all, Bella and Sebastian were still legally married.

And for all she knew, they might not even go through with the divorce.

Regardless of their current status, Sebastian was still her son-in-law. For him to see her groveling and apologizing to a madwoman was a lethal blow to her pride.
