Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 1703

Madeline and Harrison chased after her, looking down the mountain path as well. The first thing they saw was a line of police cruisers parked at the base of the hill.

Madeline's face instantly turned a sickly shade of green. She roared at Sylvia in absolute disbelief. "Sylvia! Are you out of your mind? It is just a rundown estate, and we are your closest relatives. Did you really have to push things to the absolute limit by calling the cops?" Breathing heavily, she pointed right at Sylvia's nose and cursed. "We only wanted to renovate this place to make a little extra money for the family. Are you only going to be satisfied when you have thoroughly humiliated everyone and dragged the Moore family name through the mud? Why did I ever give birth to such a backstabbing wolf?"

Harrison gritted his teeth and chimed in from the side. "You are nothing but a curse, Sylvia. Since we were kids, all you have ever done is bring trouble to the Moore family. You constantly complain that nobody likes you, but take a good look at yourself. With how selfish you are, it would be a miracle if anyone actually cared about you. The Moore family raised you, and this is how you repay us."

Listening to the increasingly vile insults hurled at her back, Sylvia slowly clenched her hands at her sides. In truth, she had gotten used to this over the years. In this household, apart from her grandparents, she had never experienced a shred of familial love. She thought her heart had long become bulletproof. Yet, faced with such venomous accusations from her own blood, an unavoidable ache still rippled through her chest.

Who would willingly push things to such extremes if they had a choice? But to protect her grandparents' legacy and safeguard this estate, calling the police was her only option. The insults from her biological mother and brother still twisted like knives in her ribs.

Taking a deep breath, Sylvia forcefully willed away the stinging tears in her eyes. She suppressed the suffocating tightness in her chest and walked down the hill without looking back.

The police officers had already marched up to meet them. Stopping in her tracks, Sylvia pointed at the two figures further up the path, her voice completely devoid of emotion. "Officers, it is them. Without my permission, they brought a construction crew to illegally demolish my property for commercial development."

The lead officer immediately quickened his pace toward Madeline and Harrison. Even from a distance, Sylvia could hear the mother and son's desperate pleas.

But before his fingertips could even brush her skin, Sylvia turned her head and coldly dodged his touch. She lifted her gaze, staring at him with a mix of defensiveness and confusion. "Why are you here?"

Steve's hand froze in midair. Looking into her freezing eyes, he suddenly understood. The impenetrable wall of ice she had built around her heart was not just because of his past mistakes. A large part of it was due to the bloodsucking relatives standing behind her.

At that moment, the lead officer, having grasped the basic situation, turned and walked back over. "Ms. Moore, we have a general understanding of what happened. Since they are your mother and brother, it is always hard for outsiders to judge family matters. After all, blood is thicker than water. It seems this was just a misunderstanding caused by poor communication. Why don't you all try to mediate this privately?"

Sylvia's brow furrowed tightly. She was just about to voice her objection when Steve took a proactive step forward.
